Whatever happened to 'form follows function'?

Died right when this "minimalist flat" era began.

Flat design isn't necessarily bad in its own right, but I really can't stand how most UIs waste so much space. They remove information for no reason and don't replace the empty space with anything.
Install Arch x86_64 (i686 will be discontinued).

What's not functional about it?

Nothing.

Redundant buttons (presumably because overcrowding makes actually important shortcuts difficult to find), unwanted and unused screen partitions and sometimes unremovable apps, the massacre of the function toolbar, and perhaps most greviously, the disregard for heiarchal or well structured graphical logics in favor of COLOR SCHEMES.

microsoft have to continually 'enhance and improve' their 'interface' as it is the only product they have

you forgot about the tools, functionality, and general usefulness of the program all being stripped away for "minimalism" yet it still grows in file size, and gets glitchyer and makes doing what you want it to do, far more cumbersome and time consuming.
good job computers, you've wasted a near infinite amount of man hours. as if our time is valueable at all anyway
