I would recommend it to you OP if you're interested. It eliminates the need for a camera too, as the phone camera is good enough for most things, assuming you aren't doing professional work with it.

By GApps, do you mean the pre-installed Google services? I have an android dev unit that I use to test mobile app development, and was disapointed when half-the-shit in my app broke because I had uninstalled Google services from the device (apperently the Google Play service does a ton of stuff in the background).

I guess it makes sense since the app uses Firebase, but it sucks I can't give users the option to use the app without it.

I would use it but I cannot use KLWP Pro without it.

I currently posting from an android without gapps. K-9 mail instead of gmail and f-droid. The biggest downside is absence of swype keyboard(I use android 4.2)

The only gapps I have installed are the Play Store and Maps. (And I guess Waze, if you count it, since it's owned by Google.)

I do and it's perfect. I'm on Lineage OS 14.1 with no Google crap. I use FDroid and APKPure for apps I want. I use the FDroid app but for APKPure I download them through the browser because their store app is a botnet and drains the battery. Individual APK files don't contain anything malicious though.

I do. It's hard because a lot of apps require google play services to run. I had to abandon my mobile banking and my app for manipulating data caps etc from my isp. It's largely about getting used to it. Once you do, you realize you are not missing all that much and your life is as easy as with these apps.
