Ran out of SATA ports and M.2 slots (my z97 motherboard has 8 SATA ports and 1 M.2 NVMe slot)
Suggest me an HBA SATA PCIe controller...or should I go with PCIe NVMe card? I have a spare old SANDISK 120GB SATA3 SSD that I would like to use, but I'm ok purchasing cheap M.2 NVMe SSD.
uh probably time to look into nas

Unless you need RAID functionality, it's fairly trivial. Go to Newegg and grab the cheapest 2 port SATA controller.

Wait, if you have 8 SATA ports, WTF are the other 3 doing?
>using pressure fittings
This shit looks like it's gonna leak anytime
6-9W år disk, do the math and dump the smallest for a big one.

sorry that was old pic, here's current ^.
- 2x5TB in RAID0
- 3x600GB Raptors in RAID0
- 1x 3TB for even more storage
- 2x 120GB SSDs behind the mobo
- 1x Samsung 941 NVMe 256GB M.2
- 1x SATA blu-ray
so that's 9 SATA devices (this is why currently 1 120GB SSD is disconnected)
basically I'm fukked, i'm out of PCIe lanes, as i7 4790 comes with 16 PCIe 3.0 lanes and I run all 16-0-0 on the gfx card, there's also 4 (or maybe 8) PCIe 2.0 lanes coming from chipset but I already have the M.2 on the mobo and bottom PCIe slot using that.
I might ditch the TV card from bottom slot and put a cheapo SATA controller or NVMe card there.

A NAS would constrain him practically to the bandwidth of how many PCIE3 lanes he could bind to fused Ethernet connections. He should be looking at server mobos w/ multiple CPU slots and like 8 DDR4 slots for his next build if he really needs that much high performance storage.

Usb3 to sata adaptors or get a NAS

This Supermicro card plus a pair of SFF-80887 breakout cables will give you eight more SATA ports.
Downside being that according to a guy in the comments, when it says it needs eight lanes, it means it, and won't work properly with less.

You could put the BR in an enclosure, or even a separate machine. How often do you really use that shit?
>>59408237
you think you're fucked?
i'm running out of USB ports on my hub
SATA were used up the day the computer was bought
>>59408237
yeah drop in what that other anon said and hook your self up to a NAS.
Pic related ( N.A.S.)

Well for starts you could consolidate these drives and clear up two ports.
>>59408237
can't use a splitter for sata3?
shit is more than fast enough to fit 3 seperate disks running simultaneously without saturing its bandwidth.
(hdds really are slow as fuck holy shit

Not to worry, the reservoir is directly over the CPU and GPU for maximum saturation.
