First off, why don't you use Kodi? There's literally tons of shit to watch for free if you use the right addons. Second, when it comes to screens, I bought the 7" official touchscreen which is beautiful. If you bought an RPi3, you should be emulating on that fucker.

Don't run Kodi on it. Run Plex and then plug in a chromecast. The plex app lets you cast to chromecast. This puts less stress on the raspberry pi

I just installed Kodi on an old laptop. I want to leave it there and turn it on when my family wants to watch DVDs and shit. However I want to connect my phone to it like it is a Chromecast.
