>>
In a sense we should be thankful that Mozilla has decided to euthanise themselves by removing the only reason anyone still uses their browser over chrome.

But it's still sad seeing an old friend get a terrible illness and have no choice but to kill themselves.

Is webextensions bad? Why should I not use addons made with it?
>>
>>59396632
I will use whatever fork TST dev will use. Or I will make my own. With TST at its core.
>>
Lynx
>>
>>59397300
The problem is that they're dropping support for XUL extensions (literally most extensions).

Some of them will maybe be ported over, but many, many will not. Classic theme restorer is dead and gone come November for example.

I can only hope they give better UI customization options when this happens or I will be looking elsewhere. Knowing Mozilla they won't do this though, so I'm already looking now.
>>
>>59397349
Fuck, CTR is a must have with how hopelessly ugly and unfunctional default ff theme is

I'm starting to work on my webkit-based linux-only web browser. There will be no javascript, because it become cancer today and sites which don't work without js should kys. Interface could be similar to pic related and dns query ad/tracking filter will be inbuilt.

It can't be popular, but if you guys can make nice logo and name, I will be pleased.
>>
>>59397534
Even opensource Chromium have proprietary binary blobs that calls home, so there is not much difference between Chrome and Chromium.
>>
>>59397498
Have you tried all the usual troubleshooting methods?
Remove unnecessary add-ons. Start in safe-mode (with add-ons disabled) and see if the problem persists. (Just hold down your shift key while starting Firefox.)
Resetting your user profile (can be done through "Troubleshooting Information" in the "Help" menu of the main menu.)
>>
Probably jump to waterfox or another forks.
>>
>>59396632
Firefox.

I expect that all add-ons I use will be ported.

It seems a bit silly to leave Firefox for a different browser because of this change, since you'd just be moving to another browser which has exactly the same problem you're leaving Firefox for.

I don't use too many extensions anyway. Of the few I do use, most of them are likely to be fairly straightforward to port to WebExtensions. My main concern is Greasemonkey, as it seems like it's pretty much destined to just be Tampermonkey now, and Tampermonkey is garbage.

>>59398524
It's important when the only reason you use Firefox is for a bunch of addons that radically change the browser.

The sad part is there's no replacement for it either.
>>
I'm thinking about giving ChrOpera another go. Maybe it's decent now.

>>
I don't really care that these extensions are losing support.
There's no browser with better extension support anyway, and if you use Firefox nightly it's just as fast as ungoogled chromium.
>>
>>59399868
>Then abandon 4chan.

Are you implying you can ever leave?
>>
>>59396713
This -- ublock origin is the only extension that matters.
>>
>>59396632
Will HTTPS Everywhere and uBlock origin work? If so Firefox, if not Chrome/Chromium or Vivaldi.

Unless they make an alternative to classic theme restorer I don't know what I'll do.

well but is a fork of either engine free of binary blobs from aplel/gugol?
or even the engine themselves arent really 100% open?

thats a huge difference, on the free side at least, on functionality its another matter entirely, and wouldn't really superseed all uses of firefox

>>59397758
why not do one based on gecko?
assuming you could have it future compatible with the current firefox extensions, while still taking advantage of mozilla security updates for the engine, i dont know if mi maknig any sense actuayl

also, performance is still good when you block 90+% of all non-essential scripts.

I just won't update for now. If, however, something happens and I have to migrate to a different browser down the road, I guess I'll use Chromium. At least it's open source, unlike Chrome.

give it a couple years, and you will get tired of your porn collection and you will want broadband and a browser again
>>
>>59397497
Such a garbage browser, almost as bad as Firefox or Edge
>>
>>59401023
>I just won't update for now
you do know that every now and then any blink/webkit/gecko browser falls prey to a drive-by-infection dont you? and not all of them depended on javascript or media or some other plugin

do you like catching malware?

even if you only visit facebook and redit and gaysex.com, eventually the site falls to filter user submitted content and the malware catches you, i hope you have a backup scheme that can resist crypto malwares, and that you have a separate netbook or android device for internet banking and stuff
>>
>>59400977
Edge is literally not even a bad browser, it's minimal and decently fast, smooth scrolling, touch friendly, still has shit Webm support though
>>

FireFox.

> why not do one based on gecko?
Assuming gecko will be abandoned by mozilla in early 2018 in favor of quantum and will reach end-of-life by then and it won't receive any security or otherwise updates, he made right choice.

> or even the engine themselves arent really 100% open?
Assuming there are public audits of both engines somewhere - they can answer this question.
>>
>>59396632
firefox esr, palemoon, or seamonkey.
>>
>>59396716
This.

>>59396632
Ive been using Waterfox and Cyberfox the past few months, still get these random lockups occasionally. I don't know if that's because webpages load 1000 js for no reason or because my pc is a bit dated (x4 640, 16gb meme ram) but its frustrating browsing the web nowadays.
>>
>>59396632
firefox is dead anyways chrome all the way

"Vimperator/Pentadactyl" is listed under "Interesting Add-ons".

Exactly
They don't give a fuck
If anything I better they're gonna move to block extensions like this, probably getting money from google to hinder adblock somehow
