reposting my question again because i need advice:

How long would it take for Asian botnets to shit up traffic on a self-hosted server? I'm currently getting a ~2012 Dell Inspiron, which I then plan on undervolting and underclocking to make it become a server.

This server would host a single static website that would link to other websites (ex. itch.io, Youtube, Twitter, Codeplex, Bandcamp), with some small links to other sites. If some botnet spammers were paid on Fiverr to spam my (theoretical as of now) website, could my underclocked Pentium bear the brunt of that stress?
The website below is almost what I've got in mind, albeit with several more links on the divider:

Is this a good choice for a storage drive? Is it rational of me to be totally put off by the negative reviews making think it's a high risk? There doesn't seem to be any Hard drives, high capacity ones at least, that don't have a full 5 or even 4.5 star rating.

For some reason, I always weigh the negative reviews like 3 or 4 times heavier than the positive ones. Is this normal? Are all hard drives essentially just a blind crapshoot?

The hardest part with programming is learning the language.

Depends on what you're trying to learn though- C is hard mode for sure.
Java is fairly easy to wrap your head around, for example.
>>
>>59394313
Yeah. Sometimes there's one big concept that is difficult for you that will "click" at one point and everything will become so much easier from then on out, even if not it's natural for this early stuff to become second nature after a while.

>>

Well you have to learn about the various android libraries that you'll be needing to interact with, and there's a fair bit to learn there, but by learning the basic programming and Java skills you've definitely stepped over the biggest hurdle, the rest is mostly just looking up the documentation as needed since nobody is really expected to memorize all that shit,.

Need help

I have a laptop connected to my Sony Bravia TV thru HDMI, but for some reason, the screen gets weirdly cut off on the left side.

There are no tracking options on the TV, except one that is overscan but all the options for it don't fix the issue (still remains cut off at all levels of it and off)

I want to use 1280x720 as the tv is 720p and should theoretically be able to handle it

Is there some tracking option in Windows, or program I Can use to get shit to fit on the TV?

Does anyone have a nuke script set up so his relatives can safely get all the photos they want without stumbling across porn?
Essentially I left instructions to plug my external hard drives into the PC, boot it, log in using the password I left with my dad (I trust him), open a terminal (I explained how to do it) and run nuke.sh which essentially wipes all the dirs that have porn in them and leaves a working installation plus all the "safe" pictures, documents etc.

Usually not a hardware issue, more likely you've fucked up something in your OS. Using 2 drives doesn't cause it. You can smart test both drives if you want. Dropping the SSD for no reason would be stupid. Just go straight to the fresh install.

If i can find a link to it through a Google search, then clicking the link can't be illegal.

you can use a IDE or a text editor like vim
vim have a few pluggins and you can customize how it works to fit your need, but a lot of people prefer using an IDE

try learning the cli and some of its tools that are useful like grep, find, tail... those can be really useful.

You use double when you want to do math with decimals (3 / 2 = 1.5, etc.), as opposed to types like int which are always whole numbers.

It stands for double precision floating point, which basically means it's twice as large as the "float" type. These days most people always use double, since saving a few bytes is rarely a concern.

My friend had to reinstall windows(10) and it didn't install any drivers or anything, so he manually did the bullshit, but one of his monitors doesn't display anything, it gets detected by windows and is running in dual monitor setup, all the new windows appear on the monitor that doesn't display anything, you can try to catch those windows blindly and pull them to the second display
Any ideas how to fix that ?

I'm writing a script that generates very simple systems of equations (3 unknowns, 9 factors, all integers).
It generates a bunch of pseudo-random integers (say, A to I, then x, y, z), calculates the sum for each line, then prints the system:

> Ax + By + Cz = (whatever)
> Dx + Ey + Fz = ...
> Gx + Hy + Iz = ...

(Obviously, A to I are replaced by their actual value, and you have to solve for x, y, z).

But how do I make sure the equations are independent, so that the system is fully solvable?

I'm pretty sure it just allocates 20 bytes of memory that bla would be pointing to, but it would still just be random stack junk until it's initialized.

1440p is great
>>
why are 144hz monitors more popular than 120hz monitors ? I understand that it's 24hz more, but 120hz in my theory should be more overall "compatible" as it divides from both 24 and 60
Also, I've heard there's some kind of memesync by asus that only runs at 120 but not on 144, forgot entirely what it's all about
>>
>>59399458
It's all personal preference. For most people 144hz is overkill. In fact for the average person it's better to go in the opposite direction and get IPS. 1440p is damn nice on 25+ inch screens, and you'd be amazed what the extra real estate can do. So even if it doesn't factor into a specific game, I really doubt you'd regret it.

Yeah, but I play a lot of old games and a lot of them are shooters.

And IPS is great but I don't like the input lag.

1440p helps clear up jaggies and gives more screen real-estate but it also means having to render at a higher resolution and optimization means nothing to most people any more.

IIRC VGA is deprecated and you can visually see bad shit happening on screen(or at least I could on my 10+ year old monitor that only had VGA and I had to use DVI-VGA adapter), it transmits analog signal so there's possible interference n shiet
and digital signal cables should all be pretty much the same shit, only that HDMI and DP carries audio and can probably support higher resolutions/framerates than DVI

You should at least install security updates. Don't worry about the ones that are listed as option in win update. Also 7 sp1 fresh install has a bug where windows update just doesn't fucking work anymore due to the number of updates (microsoft, fucking up a package manager, who woulda thought), there are like 3 updates you have to manually install before wu will find any. DON'T LET IT UPDATE AT ALL BEFORE DOING THIS

Huh, that's probably easier. Good call! Create new user who belongs to the same group as mine, chmod 700 the files and dir and remove my own account password from the keepass database (or make the db 700 as well, then create a copy with 750 permissions that doesn't contain my user pw).

Oh and I guess I have to reformat my external HDD and put the porn there into a new ext4 partition that's again 700. Right now it's all NTFS so if they get the idea to just plug that HDD into a Windows PC they could access all files because Windows doesn't care about UNIX permissions as far as I know.

>>
>>59402642
No, it actually is due to the number of updates.

If you stick a profiler on the process as it's running, you'll see that it's spending the majority of it's time in one single method, to do with dependency resolution. Clearly someone at msoft doesn't understand how bad O(n^2) is. When it says "checking for updates", 90%+ of it's time is spent locally processing, deciding which updates to install and which not to.

On launch this worked fine, because there were less updates. Now, the same algorithm takes way longer because it's terrible at scaling. There is an update for wu, that obviously changes the algo because after it actually takes a reasonable length of time.

Windows Update is just terribly designed though. Look at the Linux world where each package is a self contained thing, with only it's own files. With wu, each update can contain multiple applications, multiple parts of the system. So the update process has a really hard job deciding which ones it needs to install, and which ones it doesn't. It's not as simple as "just install a new version of all the packages currently installed", it's "look at all the updates available, and work out the minimum number of the that we need to install to fully update our system". One of these processes is obviously less efficient.
>>

Currently we're not using UML but it's probably coming next year. Like I think it's good to have a general sense of what classes to make, but this is so long winded.

What kind of relationship though? Does the class just share methods and instance variables for other objects?

>>59402883
Infos is a shit degree, honestly compsci is better in every way, you should do it if you can.
But ok, you've got some basic shit to learn here.

Association: one class that uses another class at some point. This isn't a good definition for an exam, but it's what it actually means in practice.
Checkout.java

PaymentProcessor pp = PaymentProcessor.getProcessor();
...
pp.processPayment(total, user);

there is an association between Checkout.java and PaymentProcessor.java, and probably User.java as well. Both classes exist independantly, no judgement about ownership made. If Checkout instantiated it's own new PaymentProcessor, then it wouldn't be an association anymore, it would be composition.

There are other relationships like aggregation and composition that make statements about life cycle and ownership. So if you have a class Dog and Leg, where Dog has a collection say of 4 legs, and if there are no more references to Dog then the legs will be lost too, that's NOT association. That's composition, Dog has a composition relationship with Leg.

Don't buy a prebuilt. Find some starving computer guy you know, and get him to build you something decent. Or even go to local store or something, get something made with real off the shelf parts, with decent quality. These prebuilts are cheap because they cut so many corners, so cheaply badly made, with no upgradability a lot of the time.

Can a cat be trained to guard your home from intruders?
>>
>>59403192
No. If you look at my example, I was trying to make a distinction between that.

If Checkout instantiates a NEW PaymentProcessor, then that implies ownership. The PaymentProcessor instance would be a part of my Checkout class, and if it wasn't referenced anywhere else would be entirely encapsulated within it. This isn't association, this is composition.

But in the example I tried to give, Checkout DOESN'T own the PaymentProcessor object that pp refers to. It's calling a static method of PaymentProcessor, to get an instance that already exists somewhere else in the system. So it's not composition, it's a simple association. It would also be an association if say, we were passing the PaymentProcessor instance into a method of Checkout from elsewhere in the system, like this:
Checkout.java

...
public void completeCheckout(PaymentProcessor pp) {
// some stuff that completes the checkout
}

PaymentProcessor might still have composition with some other elements, but it wouldn't have it with Checkout. It would have an association.

Simplest explanation:
>Association
Class has a relationship (uses) another class in some way, but doesn't imply ownership of the instance of the other class. Instances of both refer to each other, but can also exist independantly in the system.
>Composition
Objects of a class have a strong ownership relationship with instances of another class, they are only referenced within the first class. When Class A dies, it's objects it's composed of die too.
>Aggregation
Like Composition, object has strict ownership of other objects in the system. But doesn't impose life cycle rules, the other objects may live on.

The definitions for comp/agg are very shaky, and no one in the field actually agrees on what the difference really is. This is the one that I learned, but if your lecturer says something different then learn that instead.

>>

So Checkout is declaring a reference variable which is assigned the value of getProcessor()?

Is getProcessor() providing an object to Checkout or some other attribute?

See, the thing is that I don't have the budget for anything higher than this. I primarily play on a ps4. and just wanted to get one of these for some games that aren't that graphical intensive.

As for the specs, I've seen some videos of the games I want to play running at a more than stable fps. Yeah, I could just save and end up building a machine that would be better, but like I said, I mainly use a ps4. I made my original post because I'm not knowledgeable about pc parts and their quality, and just to make sure I couldn't build something on par with this for that price range.

>>
>>59403476
That was an example of how you can have associations without ownership.

>So Checkout is declaring a reference variable which is assigned the value of getProcessor()?
yes, it's just a reference so that it's easy to use the association from Checkout. Not the only way of doing an association, but it's an example.

>Is getProcessor() providing an object to Checkout or some other attribute?
Look at the types. I'm declaring pp as a PaymentProcessor. If PaymentProcessor.getProcessor() doesn't return a PaymentProcessor, then I have a compile error.
But this was just an example of how you can refer to a class that's instantiated elsewhere.

Redirecting elements to 127.0.0.1 is unsafe.
>>
>>59403621
>How can you use more than one PSU?
You actually can, though I wouldn't reccomend it. When the motherboard wants the psu to turn on, all it's doing is shorting one of the pins on the 24 pin to ground. Easy enough to just wire a second psu into the system, and tie those pins on both together. Then when the mobo pulls it to ground, they will both turn on.

Not a good idea though, I'd be worried about different voltages, interferance, stuff like that. If you had just one device that needed power, and didn't get any from elsewhere in the system, though, maybe you colud use it.

the just to be sure anything can ever go wrong, you can have a /home/user-elementary with symlinks to the “normal” directory of your /home partition.

You can make them easily with this command
cd /home && ln -s user-mainsystem/* user-secondary-system/

Wine translates system calls/library calls from windows applications into unix calls/libraries.

So it's kinda like an emulator, except you are actually running the application locally on your OS, not inside some container application that does everything itself, your OS is still really involved.

How to use it? I don't know about OSX, because I never use it. Might be some automatic way idk. But if you have Wine installed, then you just launch the exe. Wine creates a fake C drive that windows apps see. But give up unless you want to play things from before 2005. Compatability is erally bad.

Anyway in general you're more protected on stuff that is fulfilled by Amazon since in those cases Amazon handles returns too and you can get a refund without ever communicating with the seller. Scamming does exist though, especially with counterfeit stuff being sold can be pretty rampant in third party sellers. Why can't I walk on water with prayer? If we are all god's children, why can't we turn water into wine?

>Who is omnipotent, omnipresence, omniscience at the same time but still allows evil to exist

Job 42:2: “I know that you can do all things and that no plan of yours can be thwarted.” Job was acknowledging God’s omnipotence in carrying out His plans. Moses, too, was reminded by God that He had all power to complete His purposes regarding the Israelites: “The LORD answered Moses, ‘Is the LORD's arm too short? You will now see whether or not what I say will come true for you.’”

An omnipresent God saw all that he had made...the heavens and the earth were completed in all their vast array (Genesis 1:312:1).

Psalm 147:4-5 tells us, He determines the number of the stars and calls them each by name. Great is our Lord and mighty in power; his understanding has no limit.

Well things sold by third party sellers can go one of two ways, either it's shipped out by the seller, or it's fulfilled by Amazon, meaning it's sitting in their warehouse and shipped by them, on the same terms as anything else they would sell. If something is fulfilled by Amazon then they will handle all returns, and their return policy basically lets you return anything for any reason within a certain window with only a possibility of a slight restocking fee if your return doesn't have a good reason. Getting outright scammed would almost certainly mean this fee would be waved. If it's shipped out by a third party it could go either way, they might give you the runaround but you could probably complain to Amazon to get things resolved eventually, just would be significantly more of a pain in the ass.

Either way, scamming can happen easily, but not likely the "send someone an empty box" variety since it would just lead to a refund anyway. Nothing stopping people from stalling you for months and saying your shit got back ordered, or sending you an inferior product and hoping you don't notice, though. I would say the odds of being scammed aren't quite as high as something like eBay, but still if something sounds too good to be true you should tread carefully.

>kde5 actually looks really pretty, the design is really modern.
Plasma is an improvement, but it still looks like a themed Windows XP. There's no common layout style running through all the programs in the DE.

>The Gnome guys actually hired a bunch of designers and usability testers to create Gnome 3, and how did that turn out? Most unusable interface ever created.
I think Gnome 3 is a really great development. It's unusable to some people, but at least it doesn't have the obsession with being designed for everyone that Linux things seem to be plagued by. It has an opinion on what the user experience should be like and follows its own advice throughout the DE. Consistency is what Linux desktop environments lack.

alright other than this problem, I've never really had a problem with it. It's literally only this Mp4 file. I'm tempted to say fuck it and go get it at a redbox for a buck

no I don't believe I have any of those settings due to my computer being a 10 year old toaster with only stock parts.

It's likely a Wal*Mart PC

Then just fucking use it and don't bitch about how terrible all linux de's are.

>Consistency is what Linux desktop environments lack.
I agree, but 3 when too far. And they fucked over so many downstream projects, removed features that other de's that built off of Gnome used. Why is Unity Ubuntu only? It's fun to blame Canonical because fuck them right? But the reality is that Gnome's refusal to keep features in the codebase that other de's were using FORCED them to fork.

If god is such a powerful being, one who can see all of his domain, and one that can enact on his domain when he sees fit.Why is evil allowed? If it goes against his very fiber and all of his teachings to do good unto thy neighbor, why is evil permitted to happen? Why does god not simply smite these evil doers?
Free will has nothing to do with it. If god cannot exact righteousness on people why is there a god to begin with?
>>59405055
None of his teachings tells you to rape and murder everyone on the planet.
Free will has nothing to do with it

It's shipped out by the seller. It has an i7 6700k which retails for more than what they are charging for the entire computer.
