So my PC yesterday suddenly turned off while I was playing dotes. Tried to power it but no signal of life. Changed cables etc and nada. Then I started removing components and when I disconnected the gpu power (the 6+2 pins connector) it suddenly gave signs of life and booted normally with the gpu still plugged in but no power connected. Is my gpu dead? Specs are i5 6400, xfx ts430w. Sapphire nitro oc 4gb 8gb ram

I was going to get that case, but it would be horrible to take apart every week to clean it out. Also you have to be the PCi riser separately which just sucks imo.

It looks really nice with that watercooling setup tho, not going to watercool the GPU?
>>
>>59398146

So far I haven't had to clean it out, i hear what you're saying but I've also heard that since the case is open dust doesn't settle as much as closed cases, and the fans keep the dust moving.

So far I and people from the Thermal take P3/P5 forum have not had any issues with dust.

A PCI cable is supplied with the case but it's hit and miss as some people have had theirs broken on arrival or break after a few weeks, and you have to jump through hoops to get Thermal take to send you out a new one of their premium cables. My one has been fine but i haven't tested it against a premium one so maybe i am getting a little bit less efficiency with this one, but I have not had any issues with gaming so maybe not.

Regarding GPU i cant find a water block for my GPU otherwise i would love to watercool it.

To all those with Watercooling: How much better are the temps and noise from air? I'm currently on a Hyper 212 Evo but want to go custom water for better temps, better overclocks and lower noise when idling and gaming (I don't mind wind turbines when stress testing or folding though).

I also transport my case about 4-5 times a year. Will that be a problem even If I'm super gentle?
>>
>>59406613
I'm >>59405999, around 20-25°C better than on a Gaia II which is comparable to a 212 EVO.
I can barely hear the water pump on my model but it might be an issue with others.
>>
>>59406838
>>59406613

the waterpump is really not that loud
for my gtx110i (or whatever the fuck it is) the fans are the loudest part.

Manually setting from quiet to performance on the pump only very marginally increases noise.

You could just set the system to quiet like I do and replace the fans as well
but honestly if you are looking for a quiet system then just get a noctua for less money.
>>
>>59406613
Custom water is quite expensive, it IS better but it wont give you 1ghz extra oc from a all in one water system. As >>59406838 said, temps are good with a 2x120/140mm AIO.

Transporting is the same as air, actually alittle safer than with big air coolers as the weight isn't that bad on the motherboard.
>>
>>59406613
what kind of CPU do you plan on watercooling ?
>>
>>59406613
>lower noise when idling
you can turn off the fan during idle you moron that's all these water coolers do
only that the pumps never actually stop even if they do rev down a bit.
which is another thing you'll have to hear ontop of the fans spinning as well.

liquid cooling always ends up breaking. either a pump fails or a hose leaks and you lose thousands of dollars of equipment
do the smart thing and buy a better air cooler, they're cheaper, less noisey and cool within the internal thermostats error margin to negate any reason of needing liquid.

desu you'd be better off with a better fan/casefan setup and better fan curves than water cooling.
>>
>>59395502
antec isk 100?
>>
>>59406920
Half the reason I want to do custom water is the challenge of working with a new dimension of system building. Plus the Aesthetics I guess.
The other half is being able to runs fans much lower yet get good heat dissipation.
I also really don't like the idea of hanging a bi fucking metal block off my motherboard.

>>59406958
I'm more concerned with temps than 1GHz extra. Even a few more MHz will be decent.

>>59406974
Right now I have a 3570K that I pushed to 4.5GHz.

In the future (probably sometime this year) I'll be upgrading. I don't know what to though, between Ryzen or whatever Intel's next iteration of the Core series is (the 8000 series?)

>>59407074
I know the pumps never stop, but was under the impression that custom pumps were much quieter than AIO pumps and much less prone to failure.

What's a step up above the 212? The NH-D15?
>>
>>59407168
>I'm more concerned with temps than 1GHz extra. Even a few more MHz will be decent.

Well it is the temps that whould allow 1ghz extra... my point was, it is better than AIO water systems but not by alot. The upside to custom is that you can have gpu, mb etc in the loop too, if your just gonna cool the cpu, get AIO.
>>
>>59407168
>The other half is being able to runs fans much lower yet get good heat dissipation.
that will largely depend on the size of the radiator/surface area of the fins plus of course the fan speed too

>Right now I have a 3570K
I understand that its a hobby of yours and you want to do something different with watercooling
but consider how much a custom loop will cost and what kind of better CPU you could get with that money instead
a waterblock by itself can cost more than an AIO solution.

watercooling can give you great temps and lots of room for OC, but it is also much more expensive than anything else and in my opinion unless you're doing it on high end hardware , you are better off not water cooling and just getting the high end hardware.

no issues with the drivers. just the typical growing pains of a brand spanking new platform. waiting for windows 10 balance optimizations (which amd said next month), better bios ram support from both vendors and amd microcode (which amd came out stating early may a new microcode update to increase ram speeds), and overall bios stability. right now i took two sticks out since i can only run my 4x8gb 32gb kit at 2666mhz cas 14 vs 2x8 16gb 3000mhz cas 14 which i'm running now. i don't necessary need 32gb right now. also 2x16gb kits are worse off than 4x8gb kits. ryzen REALLY doesn't like 16gb modules since they're dual rank. ryzen really only likes samsung chips and single rank.

Unfortunately on the new mainboard (asrock z77 extreme4) the upper PCI express slot is a few millimeters higher so I had to put the graphics card into the lower PCI express slot. Length is usually a more limiting factor in GPU's than width away from the motherboard. There are a fair amount of cards with the connectors pointing towards the front panel, but I guess the side-facing connector has been tried and tested to be the most successfully selling. Why is this an issue? Where would you want it to be?

Temps are okay for my use cases and considering its a passive cooler.
When idling/surfing its always ~39°C. Under heavy load it's just below 100°C (pic related, x axis is in seconds). I've owned this cooler for more than two years now and never managed to trigger the thermal shutdown of the CPU.
The only fans are from the PSU and the graphics card. Really quiet system overall.

Script I've used to gather the data:
#!/bin/bash
echo "Time,Temperature,CPU-Frequency" >> $1
while (true); do
LOG=$(date +%s)","
LOG=$LOG$(cat /sys/devices/platform/coretemp.0/hwmon/hwmon1/temp1_input)","
LOG=$LOG$(cat /proc/cpuinfo | grep cpu\ MHz | awk '{print $4}' | tr "\n" ",")

I replaced all the braided tubing with mayhems ultra clear last weekend, along with installing a flow meter and changing my loops routing a little. Didn't take any new pics though.

My reservoir now empties directly into the pump intake instead of into the bottom radiator. This way if air gets into the system the pump can self prime, where before I had to force liquid through the loop manually until the pump primed.

I appreciate your interest.
I don’t see this model case at their site anymore, but the closest current one is the PC-D8000.
The top bay has a switch on the left that lets me know if the coolant is low by illuminating the ring. An alarm also sounds, but that is turned off by pressing the push-on/push-off button. It’ll never happen, but I had to put it there anyway. The switch in the center supplies power to the pumps when the PC power is off. That’s what the “RHINO” 12v power supply and relay are for. This also supplies power to a molex cord near the manifold in the bottom bays, for external flushing pumps. Works beautifully, flushes very well and very quickly Enough to smoke my flow sensor, so that’s been removed.
I should explain the manifold. The line exiting the side of the pump block enters the manifold and flows through the normally open valve in the rear of the three, towards the other side of the case. The other two valves stay closed for normal operation. When it’s time to flush, the PC is turned off and pump power is moved to auxiliary. The external pumps are attached, one in (left QD) and one out (right QD). When ready, the rear valve is closed, and the other two opened. This diverts flow from incoming liquid on the left, through the loop, and out through the right to waste.

I set all fans to be completely off when CPU's temperature is below 50C, leaving only the single back fan that takes warm air out running.
It is doing surprisingly good job at keeping the PC cool.
>>
>>59421005

I forgot to mention that the rightmost device in the top bay is an air bleeder, which unscrews to expose the fill port line to the top of the res.

The bleeder is spring loaded, so all you need to do is press it from time to time to let any extra air out.

The whole theme behind this build was to put forth the extra effort now, to save on maintenance hassles over the coming years.

I believe I have succeeded.

Interesting, looks like you know how to do a liquid loop properly. I'm on air now, I've considered liquid cooling before for sure, and these are the type of things that I like to see/know about for considering every little detail. That's the big reason I've held back is maintenance crap, I just don't care enough or need enough of an overclock to justify worrying about the maintenance. But I'm still thinking about it.

This is my second liquid build. The first one cooled great, but was a big PITA to maintain. It's not that I had to mess with it regularly, it's just that when I did a yearly flush, it was a messy, cumbersome affair. Now I don't have to move the PC, or even take anything apart. The whole flushing process is over in about 10 minutes.

Plan it out ahead of the build, and liquid cooling will be your friend.

I thought I'd also offer some other thoughts on my experience, aside from maintenance issues. The last time I ran an air-cooled I7 (130W), I had a big cooler, yet the damn thing was running 70-80+ C all the time. And I do know how to apply TP.

I changed to liquid not because I care to OC, which I still do to some degree, but just couldn't feature the idea of the CPU running like that all the time. The last build, also an I7, ran at 42C, maybe another 10C at full load/benchmarking.

The current build we're discussing has an I7-6950x. It runs at 33-35C, and doesn't budge at full load/benchmarking. NO BS. The loop is the nuts. I highly recommend a two D5 pump and 480 rad setup. And a large res. This includes the CPU, and two GTX 1080 GPU's.
