Alright guys,
It's been months I'm periodically lurking for a viable e-reader with no fucking e-shop and which can handle epub and pdf at least.
I always feel like the market is full of shit made to suck a little more your wallet.
Do you know something that comes with a non bloated firmware or that can be flashed to look like a reliable device ?

currently there is no eReader that has 100% libre software. So yes, everything as of right now is a botnet. Buy a physical hard cover book, and donate it to others when you're done with it.

>e-ink
no
just get a kobo like a regular intelligent person

That's what I already do for novels and essays, but I wanted something to read those much more expensive tech manuals from something more handy than my laptop. I guess I'll have to wait, thanks anon.

I thought they were quite capable, even if not perfect.

What eReader is closest to libre, then?

With the Kindle Keyboard you can just burrow down to the fully-functional Linux underneath and just use that.
I've got a Kobo Glo HD. I spoofed the account/email and have never connected it to the wifi. It works just fine over USB. I've even updated it manually.

Any link about this? Seems to be good.
How botnet is a nook simple touch, if I have never connected to wifi or updated it?

Just open it (it's extremely easy with most models) and take out the wifi chip.

Im afraid that one day I will run into thread like "is my toilet bowl a botnet?"

>year 2037
>sitting on smart toilet
>browsing 4chan
>someone posted "Is my smart toilet a botnet now that I signed for automatic stool sample sending to my doctor?"
>"I FUCKING KNEW IT"

One day it will be.
