I'm 38 and I play games. I just installed Doom. It's probably going to be uninstalled soon, or I may do a fast run of it, because it does seem kinda repetitive in gameplay and it reminds me of many games that try to be FPS+Action Adventure simultaneously so it's easy to get a "same old" feeling if you're experienced in many older games.

You could run your own e-mail server as a hobby, for instance. I've done that for years, even though I'm starting to doubt the purpose.
It's quite a bit of work if you want to adhere to modern standards, DNSSEC, DKIM, SPF, then fine-tune spam filters, sieve scripts, etc...
You can have all that from a commercial e-mail provider for $2 / month.

Go outside. Learn to surf. Buy a quad. Travel. Get a wife. It's not hard bro. There are endless possibilities when you don't spend your entire life inside your house.

I'm not even on Linux but holy shit anon gaming isn't the only hobby you're allowed to have, let alone only computer related ones.

Lately I've been self-learning some welding, so I can do some restoration work on my car, although my grandfather's old unit is not exactly appropriate for the job (welding body panels with a SMAW unit that won't go below 50A should be a fun time indeed).

Go outside and talk to people

Honestly I've never needed any incentive to stop gaming once I've realize how time is short and just how much time I've wasted a day gaming (6+ hours), and it's served me for nothing at all.

I can get the same of enjoyment doing an intensive workout, reading classics to have a glimpse into the mind of amazing individuals and philosophers, or interacting with people (to balance out too much time spent hacking locked in my room), all while having that warm and fuzzy feeling that you're actually improving as a human being on the side: getting healthier and more attractive, better vocabulary and overall perspective, filling that primal social need and becoming a better talker.

Just as a note there's ~3000 games on steam for linux right now (the following is pasta):

Not him but the no games argument is not true anymore. Windows is the best os for gaming mostly due to most game developers are trained into developing for it with microsoft's closed APIs, so the simple process of porting a game that was developed for windows to any other platform will affect negatively the performance of the game. This with the fact that the marketshare is small compared to windows there's hardly an incentive at the moment to optimize for linux, making look as if the platform were worse for games than windows when in fact to flip the situation you'll need to change the idiosyncrasies on the industry itself.

The fact though is that the situation on linux is not nearly the same than two years ago and now those who prefer linux over windows now can play games on it, helping to break the vicious circle, but still there's a lot of things to do for linux to compete in the gaming side. I anyone wants for this to change i recommend to play the games you can on linux when possible and ask for linux ports.

I notice some people doesn't want's for this to happen but if that the case let me ask (not directed specifically to the person i'm replying): how are any of you benefited in a meaningful way with the current situation? because i consider that keeping the statu quo just to have a tool to win an argument on what OS is better is not a meaningful thing. how having less options and practically being locked to MS products benefits you?

>3000 games and not one of them worth switching to linux
Probably not to switch to linux but now people who likes linux or that want to use linux for entertainment purposes have 3000 less reasont to be locked on windows. Seriously, this is not only about a tribal competition but about how us as users are benefited by competition and by having more viable options.

>>59383706
>I literally checked my steam account a week ago. Out of 130 games I own only 15 work.
You're not the only steam user, for a lot of people +50% of their library is available on linux. I you have a lot of windows-only games doesn't mean it's the same for other people and more considering most of the top played games are available on linux. Check this first:
https://www.reddit.com/r/linux_gaming/comments/4tqxph/42_of_the_top_1000_steam_games_are_on_linux/
Also consider while consoles has a lot of exclusives that windows doesn't have, linux and windows has a lot of games consoles doesn't have like CIV VI.

>You're full of shit.
Check the links on the post you're replying to. Is there anything factually wrong? The original claim the pasta addresses says that there's practically no games on linux and that most of them are bad. The links proves there's +3000 games on linux and that there's a lot of good games on linux, of course it's too soon to compete directly with windows but good enough to keep entertained a lot of people.
>>
>>59382758
you can still game on linux just use SteamOS and modify the fuck out of it
>>
>>59383844
I do pirate them unless I really want to support the devs, all my windows exclusive games are pirated. It's just much more difficult to find torrents for Linux games. But if you think I've spent over $100 on games in my life you're wrong. And $10 a year won't kill you.
Plus, nobody suggested buying anything. It's just an image proving Linux does support a shit ton of games.
>>
>>59383672
The remaining games are not worth switching to Windows.
