tell me /g/, Im using Ubuntu now for a pretty long time and the only thing really making me go back go an other os is the bad support for docx/xlxs files or textfiles in general. How does it come that such a developed OS doesnt have something equivalent to Word who doesnt fuck up my files all the time?
And sure I could use LateX, I could use Vim and I could use other things, but its not that easy in a work enviroment where most people use Windows.

the linux desktop will never be a thing. Its only is good for people that use it in a niche case such as not using any .docx files.
Any sane person who needs a desktop OS should use macOS because its simply the best daily driver.

A few reasons:
1) MS Office formats are proprietary
2) Linux developers aren't a single team somewhere distributing OS's to manufacturers and making cash, Linux developers are everyone; you've heard of guerrilla warfare, Linux is like guerrilla software development, so of course their products will be less refined and stable, but the idea is they make up for it in quantity and you pick out the good apples

Libreoffice works well with it's own files, but docx is a proprietary format, so it's not that easy to support it. I attend university, so using linux is not a problem for me, since the people here are sane enough to post everything as pdfs. I think wine has good support for MS office, or you can always just use a vm, it's less hassle than booting back into winshit, at least if your PC is powerful enough to handle it. Using latex would be overkill for you, since you don't sound like someone who needs to write a lot of equations. You could also just use libreoffice to make your own documents and export them as pdfs if you want windows users to be able to view them, assuming you don't want them to edit the files.
I'm using onlyoffice ATM and is pre comfy
