And that's also the time I stopped doing any school work handed to me. And still passed year 10. The education system is a fucking joke. The class could have been fun if there was actual problems to solve, thus giving a practical learning experience, but no. It was $250+ fisher price toy robots.

Yes, but not for the reasons that most cite (career prospects). There will never be more than a tiny percentage of the country's population working as software developers.

The real reason is that programming offers a way of teaching problem-solving and critical thinking that's much more tangible and less abstract than math. There are lots of kids who never fully benefit from higher math education because they need something more practical for things to "click", and programming could fill that niche nicely.

It'd also help improve general knowledge levels when it comes to how computers work under the hood, hopefully leading to less people treating it all as some kind of mysterious electric magic and more like a system of systems with holes and caveats.
