I installed several Linux distributions on mine without needing to physically modify anything. Most of them don't have this write protect screw. Refusing to consider any laptop with a certain pre installed OS because some of them are locked down garbage is like refusing to buy anything that isn't Apple because Asus makes garbage Windows laptops.
