It is better at some things but lacks many of the features of Office and also lacks polish.

Well, you can't beat the price to productivity ratio of libreoffice, but yeah, it feels like you're using office 2005.
It gets the job done I guess. Go for office if you are comfortable with dropping a few hundred bucks when there's a free alternative.
