how does arch compare to gentoo? you have to compile/build all your shit for gentoo, but arch is rolling release with a big repo and yaourt. which is more gratifying? i want to try and build stuff, but i like going through the repository for cli programs and try out different hotkeys. navigating through a terminals seems fun. i can do it in gentoo but i dont know what their repo is like. i guess ill try both out. sorry for posting.
Why don't you do LFS if you're legitimately into it and not memeing?
gentoo is all about customisation and optimising packages
arch is all about whatever is easiest for arch devs
gentoo user here. you do have to compile all your programs, which takes a long time, but it's all automated by the package manager, so if you follow the handbooks, you'll have basically 0 issues, unlike e.g. LFS where you need to actually compile shit by hand.
