I'd be interested in the security of VeraCrypt vs. dm-crypt and LUKS.

VeraCrypt works on Linux so I'm seriously considering encrypted by Linux laptop with it. TrueCrypt has been proven in court cases, the FBI weren't able to crack it. VeraCrypt underwent a security audit and had a few issues fixed.

Has dm-crypt and LUKS ever undergone a security audit? Which encryption is stronger?

Either one will work for keeping the guy who steals your laptop out.

If you want tested security go with vera, but I think bitlocker should also work fine for most people. (I sill use vera over bit)

Truecrypt is still safer to use then Veracrypt, dm-crypt and LUKS is fine for Linux. Truecrypt just offers more features and the ability to choose encryption method and slow hashes.

Not true, there were serious vulnerabilities discovered in the VeraCrypt security audit which also exist in TrueCrypt since VeraCrypt is based on the TrueCrypt codebase. The VeraCrypt vulnerabilities were fixed, but the TrueCrypt vulnerabilities will never be fixed since it is no longer maintained.
