why doesn't 4chan default to https?

So old as fuck browsers without updated SSL certs can still access it
So that you have the choice of using HTTPS. I appreciate this choice, even though it's the choice I make most often.
Cause its more secure and safe from CIA niggers

4chan is an imageboard, and images load faster over plain HTTP.
Try it yourself.

even faster than http2?

botnet
No good reason. If it did, he'd be able to use HTTP/2.

I used to run an imageboard. Hell, I had instant updates without reload times using WebSockets, and a JSON API before 4chan.
HTTP/2 makes an absolutely spectacular difference in the performance of loading hundreds of thumbnails in a thread.
Example from one of the last CDNs to support it (hi Rob): https://http2.akamai.com/demo
And thanks to the consensus on the working group, you only get HTTP/2 with TLS, as no site should be cleartext anymore (even if it's all public, as imageboards mostly are).
But Hiro needn't/doesn't care; front end's all CloudFlare anyway (who were one of the very first to support it). He's mostly looking to cut costs to increase his profit (if the experience of the 2ch users is accurate, and from what I've seen so far from his actions here as admin, it's right on the money). This doesn't have an impact on costs, so he's not interested in it.
I didn't even know it defaults to https. Why aren't you typing in https into the address bar by default, moron?

Maybe some day.
