What's the deal with Cinnamon? People say it's good looking but less lightweight than other desktops - how come? What's the beauty of it? The application menu?

Cinnamon more or less consists of several different projects strapped onto the GNOME desktop environment. As such, there's some things that are kinda spaghetti (e.g. the menu editor).
