Dell XPS 13, Yoga 910, HP Spectre X360 or ThinkPad T460p as a work laptop? .NET dev.
>>
>>59337134
Do you like touchscreens or intend to use the machine in tablet mode? If not, don't buy an x360 or a yoga. If you like nice keyboards buy a ThinkPad, if you like nice screens buy an XPS. No, you don't get both.
>>
>>59337383
But the Yoga has the best display by far.
>>
>>59337134
Stop being poor and get the new Carbon X1.
>>
X360 has ghost screening issues
>>
>>59337439
>Carbon X1
My boss is paying for it, not me and I'd prefer integer scaling and 1280x720 is just too low.
>>
>>59337383
Thinkpads are lauded heavily here but they never mention the bad screens.
>>
>>59337486

What? The only 2 options for it are:
14.0" WQHD IPS (2560 x 1440) 300 nits
14.0" FHD (1920 x 1080) 300 nits
>>
Go to best buy and look at the display models, picking them up and handling them while trying keyboards. You will find that you will lean towards the HP spectre as it's the thinnest, lightest, and most powerful.
>>
>>59337134
XPS 13 or Thinkpad, XPS 13 is lightier, but the Thinkpad's keyboard has more feedback.
>>
>>59337511
2560x1440 with integer scaling is 1280x720. I think I could deal with no scaling at that PPI though, I'm currently using a 3200x1800 13.3" display at 150% scaling, an effective screen size of 2533x1200 and the text is big enough while having plenty of workspace.

>>59337527
>HP spectre as it's the thinnest, lightest, and most powerful
But none of these is true.
>>
>>59337528
And the xps's screen is nicer.

The XPS keyboards truely, truely awful
>>
>>59337709
>truely
Twice anon?
>>
>>59337134
>xps

consumer
Go ThinkPad, just because it's better built.
>>59337486
Then request the following:
>Windows 7 Pro
>WQHD, the FHD has shit colors and lower brightness (read the notebookcheck review)
>2 o 3-year onsite warranty

do you have proof?
The HP has a 7500U, which is as good as the yoga and better than the XPS13
The 2-in-1 XPS 13 is fucking garbage, straight up

ThinkPad T470.

why? it's pretty intuitive to use in fact.

like when you have a good piece of man page you can just lay back and scroll it with the screen without reachin some hotspot with the not-external-mouse which will throw few lines to wrong direction no matter what.

it becomes more laptop with the touch ability imo

>>59339107
What the fuck are you talking about? Every laptop discussed in this thread is touch, the XPS 13 just happens to have shit hardware with the 2-in-1 version being literally more underpowered than a tablet
>>
>>59338204
the side powerbutton is for the tablet mode, you silly.

I've the burning gpu version. works fine (not overtly loud, only starts fanning when lenovo spyware starts to run but these services can be disabled), and haven't droppped it down the stairs yet so can't say 'nything about the build quality on that matter.

biggest down side is the ssd size.

oh shit wat the fuck
>cognitive dissonance
my bad

fuck didn't realize that thinkpads had the touch ability too. Pretty expensive though to have a decent hardware. That's the reason they are mainly for work. But if one would have the pennies I'd go for them.

but the xps has some (probably paid but anyway) articles on better battery life and benchmarking compared to yoga and hp.
>>
>>59338204
get a pop filter for your mic dude

>>59339309
"burning gpu"?

i have the intergrated hd 610, i hear you can get a dedicated gfx card in there ?

They may be outdated, the Spectre with Kaby lake absolutely destroys basically everything on battery life (I think the Yoga might match it in battery life, don't remember) and has a 7500U
The XPS 13 2-in-1 has a "Y" series 5 watt tablet CPU, and I believe the non-2-in-1 XPS 13 has a skylake U series (which Kaby lake drastically lowered power draw for laptops in addition to calling their 5w CPUs "i5's" and "i7's" this year)
>>
>>59339565
the factory (((nvidia))) card.

I'd say you could. Beware though few things. First off you don't necessary need an external gpu for laptop use. Seriously. Its better off to buy a desktop computer for the CAD/Game/After Effects stuff. Or just a (pleb?) console for games.

But if you really would like to you can look up for gpu kits for the processor and the motherboard. NOT RECOMMENDED though. This is mostly for hobby-stuff tinkering and usually done with older computers. It is hard to bypass the intel-gpu-chip and with these slim computers manage the overheating.

>>59339622
Hasn't Dell already come to the market with this years edition? I looked that up maybe a month ago or something and it still was 6500U i7 compared to HP and Lenovo with skylake. I'm pretty confident that would come with the Kaby-lake too.
>>
>>59339775
I've only heard of the skylake U non-2-in-1 and the 2-in-1 which was released with (mobile) Kaby Lake, no other XPS's that I know of. It's not a new model until they put the webcam in the right spot imo
And both the Spectre and the yoga come with Kaby Lake, 15 watt proper laptop CPUs
>>
>>59337134
pick a macbook
>>
>>59337134
15.4" MBP or you're gay
>>
>>59339011
T460p uses quad core CPUs, 45 W.

>>59339622
Yeah, the Yoga is pretty much the same, while having larger display and 4 times the resolution while having the same weight because it has a significantly larger battery.

>>59341129
>>59341152
Can't.
>>
The real question is this: Can Windows laptops achieve decent battery life?
>>
>>59337134
XPS 15, not even look at 13'' toys
>>
Im thinking about getting a xps 13 developers edition but i hope the keyboards arent THAT bad
>>
>>59344183
They are the same weight or lower with higher resolution and still achieve better batterylife than MacBooks.
>>
>>59337134
>.NET dev
you should reconsider your platform choice before worrying about laptops

I have an xps 13 and I fucking love it. The keyboard isn't as bad as people make it out to be.
>>
>>59338026
as cheap as possible camera

>>59346515
This tho

kek. Fucking op gettin da whole M$ shills with no real benefits. It's not a biggie if you have windows as os but going the whole way to the little ms thing? It's reason gates a billionaire and can have the little behind the curtain presentations with some cool agents and .net developers have that image of being a indian programmer at some shitty village.
>>
>.NET

cuck
>>
Surface pro 4 is pretty good desu,
Your options all really expensive though, probably go with the Thinkpad T460 as the X360 is garbage, the XPS has shit screen wobble/shit keyboard
>>
>>59337134
don't get a 13inch laptop for a full time job, I did it and regreted it badly.
It's too small, I went from the xps 13 to the 15 in some weeks.
>>
>>59347453
.NET Core is multiplatform and opensores.

ignore the yoga. that thing feels so fucking flimsy every time i pick one up i think its going to break or just straight up bend in half

>Go ThinkPad, just because it's better built

Latest thinkpads are not special. Every generation they are getting closer and closer to consumer grade.
>>
>>59344183

I have to hand it to Microsoft, Windows 10 has some kickass power management.
>>
Get the most expensive Thinkpad you can get that's not retarded workstation tier.
>>59350074
Still shit compared to Apple laptops. MS has a lot of ground to make up in that area.
>>
>>59350262
This is a joke right? Fagbooks have terrible battery life
>>
>>59350294
Cut the bait, blox. If you're referring to the new MBP, they fixed whatever was wrong in a software update.
