Tox is encrypted all the way and peer-to-peer, i don't understand why it's still so rarely used.

Is IRC secure? I've never really used it but my understanding (based on not much desu) was that you're basically broadcasting your messages for anyone to see. Is that wrong then? I'm open to being corrected given I know little about IRC.
