I made some rar archives a while back. Will 7z be able to see them and access them normally? Can I also basically do the same shit with it?

I still use winrar over 7zip for one really stupid reason.

let me point it out to you this way: given they both have top-tier compression going on, but 7zip (compression algo and implementations) is opensource and free while rar is behind patents and other legal bullshit, why would you ever go for rar? Plain old .zip is not proprietary, and .jar is just a .zip file. The .rar format is still garbage, however.

As someone who uses 7z and rar, why should I use 7z exclusively? RAR has the recovery record, meaning it won't brick itself when bit rot fucks up part of the file, unlike 7z.

I use 7z but when you compress some photos to send in an email to other people they always say i cant open the file. I would like to say use fucking google and look up what program to use but i end up going back to rar
