Why is this allowed?

Just added a 5th drive with a little help of a hacksaw, without having to compromise my airflow. Don't worry, the SSDs don't get hotter than 35°C under load and the HDDs usually sit at around 30.

Don't mind the random stray fan on the bottom.

I like big sinks and I cannot lie
You other /g/men can't deny
That when a rig rolls in an itty bitty case
And a huge rad in your face
You get sprung, wanna pull up through
Cause you notice that sink was stuffed
Deep in the case it's within
I'm hooked and I can't stop staring
Oh baby, I wanna get with'cha
And take your picture
My /g/boys tried to warn me
But that sink you got makes ME SO HORNY

If it were touching, I'm pretty sure it wouldn't turn on, m8. There's a good 3mm gap, you just can't see it because of the angle the picture was taken.

I used zip ties to attach the VRAM sink and the zip tie ends would touch the CPU heatsink before it would touch anything electrical, and keep them separate. It's fine, unless I kick the case down the stairs or something, but then I've got bigger problems.

>>
>>59337485

>Probably still runs everything even today except the big multiplayer games.. Overclock limited by temp or mobo?

By voltage, i don't want to overvolt the thing. It has been running since 2010 at that speed. And i doubt the previous owner run it at stock clock at any time.
>>
>>59347953
If temps are good (both cpu and vrm) then there is no problem really. The cpu dying is VERY unlikely by a little vcore boost if it still runs today.
If cpus dies, it usually is within a year of some weakness and under very high temps.

Basicly, if you have the temps under control, cpus pretty much never die, even if you run quite high voltage. The failing factor is the motherboard 95% of the time, and I'm convinced they most often die because of either shitty cooling and/or shitty psu's.

Of course the performance gain you will see overclocking it further on air is small considering things will get hot fast, so may not even be worth it.

Windows 10 does it by default. Just set the image to stretched and make sure the total resolution fits.

My setup is dual 2560x1440 in a landscape + portrait orientation. Which makes the bottom edge 4000 pixels wide, and 2560 pixels on the highest point of the portrait monitor. (though the landscape monitor will obviously only have 1440 pixels in vertical height)

So with a 4000x2560 image (or larger) you can span it across both displays.

Or if you have two landscape monitors, you can set it up to work that way as well, though obviously the picture dimensions change from 4000x2560 to 5120x1440.

>two 1080p 144hz TN panels

Why...?

If anything get your primary monitor 144hz, then get a 2nd monitor that is higher res, or IPS or similar.

You aren't going to be gaming on both at the same time, just seems like a waste.
>>
>>59348512
I like matching monitors and I really like how smooth everything is, it was horribly jarring going from 144 to 60 so I just bought two, they were reasonably priced so it didn't matter to me.
>>

>>
>>59348669
Don't worry I'm using all my lanes, I made sure from the manual. It's one of the reasons I bought the 6850K. It also has a higher base clock speed which is nice.

>>
>>59348656

>>
>>59348692
>Don't worry I'm using all my lanes
...How?

I see a GPU that's x16
I see an SSD that's x4
and I see another device, potentially network or sound card which would be x1 or x4.

So x24 or x21 lanes used.

The 6800k has x28, the 6850k has x40

Either way i'm adding up and you have spare lanes with either CPU.

Unless i'm missing something

>>59348729
I'll be building in this case soon (FIL former marine and wants a new computer). How easy was it to build in? How easy is the cable management?
>>
>>59348723
Oh, I thought you said you hoped I was fully utilizing my lanes, to which the answer is yes. If I had installed the GPU in the first slot, it would be using x8 instead of x16, for example.

I don't need to use all my lanes, so obviously I'm not, but it's good to be prepared in case I do. I wanted to future proof a bit, and get some of that higher clock speed.

That other device is a WLAN card. I know I could've bought a motherboard with integrated WLAN/Bluetooth but the price would have bumped up by 200-300€ which is crazy. This way I can also replace it when we get new WLAN protocols.
>>
>>59348777
....So you spent $200-300 more for a CPU that has a 200Mhz overclock compared to the cheaper CPU?

When BOTH CPUs can overclock WITH EASE to 4Ghz+?

The 6800k is literally identical silicon to the 6850k, they overclock to identical levels.

6800k stock is 3.4GHz
6850k stock is 3.6GHz

Both can hit ~4.2GHz with an average cooler.

The ONLY difference is the 6800k has 28 PCIe lanes and the 6850k has 40 PCIe lanes.

I guess I just don't understand your logic. You wasted $200-300 for literally nothing.

Yeah, I was already planning on doing that, this is my rig here(>>59333472), so I have a decent bit of experience as it is. Just hadn't actually got my hands on the case yet, but it's the only thing he bought so far, he was going to let me do the rest.

Your post has made me seriously reconsider a purchase I just made last night. Pic related is my current computer.

I bought a z170 Maximus VIII HERO that came with a phanteks p400. DDR4 3600 c15 and RGB LED strips for the case. Also one fractal fan.

Those heatsinks look so good that I'm not sure I want any of this shit now. I would love to get something big that thermalright or a noctua, a huge heat sink for my gpu too. I'm pretty sure I'll have to mount my h105 at the front of the p400 which has shit air flow because of case design. Fuck.

Just going to return everything. Probably going to replace the 1060 with something. Used 980ti that I can actually volt unlock for overclcocks or maybe the locked down piece of shit GPOO Boost 4.0 1080ti
>>
>>59351325
Oops. That reads like I already own the h105. It was part of the order.

Probably gonna sell my 6600k and spend the $120 on a 7700k just cus i want to delid it for 5.2ghz

>>59333634
jesus fucking christ how much does that monstrosity weigh
>>
>>59352442
Not that guy but the CPU cooler is called the Thermalright Le Grand Macho, it weighs 900g with out fans.
>>
>>59352466
fuck that shit i'd rather just get a liquid cooler
>>
>>59352486
Well I'm
>>59351325
>>59351352
and as I said it makes me regret ordering the h105 even though i got it for $100 and it's a 280mm cooler. Air coolers last literally forever, AIO water will slowly evaporate and the pump will die eventually. Air coolers also tend to be about $30 cheaper for almost identical performance to a 240mm rad. I also love the aesthetic.
Water cooling is "air" cooling in a sense as well it's just thats done with the radiator instead of on the motherboard.
>>
>>59352513
I'd rather pay extra and not have to deal with a giant heatsink in my case
>>
>>59352536
Cases are designed for them though. That's why exhaust fans are always where they are and why people stress air flow. Water cooling has it's place but I think it's possible to make a strong argument for big air cooling vs AIO water.
>>
>>59352536
this, i'll just buy another AIO in a few years, money well spent for not having a giant fucking hunk of metal hanging off my motherboard.
>>
is that a corsair c70?
wtf that case had ample storage for drives without needing to hacksaw anything, you removed the drive enclosure assembly.

It was perfect it even points the in-outs towards the flat cable management side of the case so you don't even have to see the wiring. you can even still mount those two fans in front of it and they help keep the drives cool

the drive enclosure even had nice little plastic caddys that held both 3.5 and 2.5 inch HDD's. Its the only case i've had that comes with a mounting solution for 2.5" ssd's
>>
>>59352359

That was the point of the entire operation.
>you can even still mount those two fans in front of it and they help keep the drives cool
The drives are cool as it is.
>>
>>59353265
may I ask what the point was of modifying the base configuration? It doesn't look like you're using the space you cleared out

also isn't the c70 made to remove that enclosure without the use of a saw? on my case its just a few screws
>>
>>59353327
I hacksawed the 5.25" mounts to fit 2 of them in the spare 5.25" bays. The drive cage screws in with a handfull of screws, yes. I'll put it back in if I ever need more drives, which is unlikely at this point.
>>
>>59353428
ohh I see
thanks for the clarification, looks like a good fit.

Can you fuck off already, you dumb poorfag fuck? Why are you so mad he spent more on a better processor? He told you he wanted the lanes in case he needs them later on.

Get a job you bang for buck cuck.
>>
>>59353580
You can see it in the 2nd picture, the tabs on the bottom, where the SSDs are screwed to, are a lot longer and designed to hold another 2.5" drive, bulky mechanical 2.5" drives. It looks like there's plenty of clearance, but it actually collided with the HDD underneath/bottom of the 5.25" bay.

Hey, I love you. Please do me a favor because the information isn't available on the internet. You could even publish the data.

Can you get past 4 ghz with 4 cores off? What about 4 cores and SMT off? The processor is so under utilized in most game workloads that I feel that going down to a 4 thread config to maybe increase OC headroom will be worth. I want to build a Ryzen computer with a custom loop but I want this information before proceeding.
>>
>>59354211
I think that theory has already been tested and the OC headroom isn't much higher, I'm only able to hit 4.1 on all 8 cores like most reports out there already.

I'm not overclocking it until they push a microcode update or something that allows dynamic downclocking during OC because right now overclocking means running at that clockspeed 100% of the time

>I'm only able to hit 4.1 on all 8 cores like most reports out there already.
Well let me rephrase, I haven't desired to push the voltage far enough to really see if I can push beyond that clockspeed.

Also memory speeds are still fuckey, the motherboard doesn't seem to like my C16 3200 Trident Z
>>
>bought my i7 4770 (non k) 3 years ago

What's the point of buying K processors nowadays?

Spaghetti happens. I mostly dislike the orientation of your CPU heatsink. That fan better be pulling air through the fins.

Also the candy thermometer is an electrical short waiting to happen and the cocktail label is a fire hazard.
