So I looked at the paste-bins but couldn't quite glean the information I wanted from them.
How do I know which key-caps will have a transparent part to allow the LEDs underneath to display each key character brightly?
I understand that these might be rare/expensive, in which case I'd avoid them.
My warmest thanks for any (You)s I get.

I just got a mech keyboard and its so fucking loud...

Almost want to go back to using my old rubber dome now. Feels like I got scammed $100 falling for this meme.
>>
>>59329475
Should've got browns.
>>
>>59328276
Been using my HHKB pretty heavily (as in full time programming job heavy) for nearly two years now and I'm amazed at how well the little fucker has held up. Little to no shine developing on the keys (yay PBT) and the keys feel almost the same as when I bought it.

My cherry blue board has held up well in switch feel, but the ABS caps look and feel like shit after not even a third as much use as the HHKB has seen. Tempted to get a nice set of PBT caps for it, but it's a full size which just feels ungainly after years of using an HHKB.
>>
>>59329504

I'm a blue user that's considering getting an HHKB. It's considered to be a meme because it is a rubber dome keyboard, but how do the Topre switches compare to the blues?
>>
>>59329499
It has browns...
>>
>>59329499
not him but I have browns and they're super loud

>>
>>59329677
It's a different feel, and if you're going to be using this board at work, topres grate on coworkers a lot less than blues (coworker had blues, and while everyone eventually got used to it he got flak I never got with my HHKB).

The tactile sensation isn't as defined and is more like a "thud" than the cherry-style light mechanical click. It's not like a rubberdome, though, because the resistance is highly consistent between keys and the sensation is much more defined.

When I let other non-mech people try both boards most favor the cherries, usually citing easier actuation. In reality I think it's actually the noise that people like.

What's the best noise dampeners?

I'd prefer thicker ones because on a clear switch it feels good to have the click feeling as soon as I bottom out with no more room to go further than the actuation point.

I prefer heavy tactile switches. Started to get an erection for clickyness. Would love to try Greens, and I hear gaterons are heavier than the cherry counterparts.

Thoughts on the new Logitech G Pro keyboard?

I'm currently using a chink tenkeyless keyboard with Gateron blacks, but I kinda don't really like it so I've been looking for a replacement, and this randomly caught my attention. I use Logitech mice and having the mouse and keyboard by the same manufacturer tickles my autism in the right way, plus the design is what I was looking for. I know some people dislike the switches, but I like the reasoning behind them, and since Logitech is so mainstream I'm going to be able to test them out in store easily despite living in the ass-end of Europe.

>>
>>59333594
Legit biggest reason I'm considering it, to be honest.
>>
>>59333562
It's a hand wired build, and I had to cut up a quickfire rapid plate to get the split right shift. I used hot glue to keep the switch in place because I cut away too much metal. I'll probably straighten it out one of these days.
>>
Are Gateron Reds really that much better than Cherry Reds? I'm having a really hard time find a decent TKL with Gateron Reds.

I just want a sombre looking keyboard with gateron reds, chinks please save me.
>>
>>59333574
Its way to over priced and its competiton has better build quality and more features. But you have autism so who cares
>>
>>59333755

>>
>>59333802
I can only find the Noppoo is Kalhi or whatever switches, I honestly can't find any of these in gateron reds.
>>
>>59333755

Also for some reason the white case/RGB version is cheaper than the black case/non-RGB version.

I just got a Masterkeys Pro S (Cherry MX Blues) with a cheapo JellyComb mechanical numpad (Outemu blues). This is by far the most pleasant keyboard I've typed on, it feels very solid and sturdy. The blues also feel great and the tactile click is quite strong, I don't know why but they feel very different compared to Cherry blues on other keyboard's I've used. Different in a better way, but I expected them to be the same as what I already knew and was pleasantly surprised instead.

The JellyComb numpad is pretty nice too, especially for the money. The switches are mounted to a metal plate and feel nice. It's not quite as sturdy as the Pro S but still great build quality for a 19EUR product. My only real complaint is that numlock on the thing doesn't seem to actually be numlock, as in it doesn't trigger the PC-side numlock toggle, it just changes which keys the pad itself sends out. Never had a numpad before so I don't know if this is the "normal" way to do it, but it would've been nice to have an actual numlock button.

The orange keys on top are '(', ')' and '=' which I swapped to some orange keycaps I had around. I remapped them using AHK to hotkey buttons since I'd have no use for them otherwise. Also these 3 special characters are emitted using Alt codes (so it sends Alt+040 for '(' for instance), which means they only really work for Windows and even then only for typing, I don't think you could bind an action in a game to one of them or something.

Shit picture, I am currently too lazy to take out my proper camera and take a decent photo.
>>
>>59333783
Last time I was buying a mechanical keyboard I just got the cheapest one off aliexpress that had decent switches, so I'm not exactly an expert.

What would you recommend that's cheaper, has better build quality, and
>doesn't have the floating keycaps design
>has good switches for gaming available
>RGB or single color backlight
>simple design
?
>>
>>59334315
>good switches for gaming
This is a meme.

All switches are good for gaming. Clicky ones are slightly less good for rapid taps since they have higher reset points than linear or tactile, but they're still perfectly fine. Get what you like.
>>
>>59334315
Any thing by Ducky (except for the shine 6) or Cooler Master. I know that ducky keyboards have programmable macros, rgb lighting, and media keys, so if that ticles your autism then go ahead.

The chinks make some knock off DSA for around 40-90 bucks for a full set. There is even a chink knock of of SA if you want higher profile, but those are closer to 100 bucks. If you want to stick to signature plastics then get the Filco ones for 60 bucks

Because multi-shot moulding is the most expensive way to do legends. It requires separate moulds to be made for every single legend variation, vs dyesub which can have new legends, fonts, icons, etc added easily and cheaply since you just need the instructions for how to inject the dye.

Any "high end" feature can still be cheap for the end user if the work was done in China.

They're much nicer to type on since they aren't scratchy shit, plus theit tactile switches dont feel like there is sand stuck in them. Their smoothness makes them superior
>>
>>59349297
Gateron stems are measurably better molded than Cherry ones, with numerous corroborating photo evidence.

There are microscope shots of Cherry and Gateron internal contacts showing better crosspoint contact gold-plating on the Gateron ones, which provides more reliability and durability.

And they cost roughly half as much or less per switch.
>>
>>59349297
Also Gateron switches have clear or translucent switch tops by default, making them better for backlighting.

By contrast, Cherry only offer about half of their switch variants in "RGB" with clear tops. Want clears and nice backlighting? Not gonna happen without buying some Gateron clear switch tops, which are sold on their own to fix Cherry's mistakes.

Why are you shilling for a keyboard brah?
If you do what criticisms other then the price and non standard bottom row how about the build quality:
Cheap thin laser etched ABS keycaps that will wear out after three months and develop a yucky texture to them, but you can't replace them with something better for cheap due to the nonstandard bottom row. When the competition offers PBT keycaps which are far more durable then ABS and with better quality then corsair for a fraction of the cost, that shows corsair doesn't really care about a quality keyboard. PBT keycaps are cheap and will only increase the cost of the keyboard by a few bucks, but also come with a massive step up in quality.
Or
How about the LED issues that corsair has been having on their keyboard. Now corsair claims to have fixed them with their new PCB design, but after selling shoddy LEDs for years it gonna take a bit more then a claim by corsair to convince me that its been resolved.
Or
How about the buggy software that's lacking and crashes all the time. The fact that a few months ago something as simple as layers wasn't available, when cheap Chinese keyboards have had that feature for years just baffles me. Not only that even when it finally has been implemented its still buggy as hell and often freezes causing you to forcibly kill it. And lets not forgot that something as simple as customizing your LEDs is a mess since the software has a mind of its own.

Now as for the aesthetic it attracts a certain audience of gaymers that many people prefer not to be associated with. While taste is a matter of preference I wouldn't want people to look at my keyboard and think I associated with this PC gaymer culture, many of whom prefer corsair keyboards. That's why I went with a minimalistic mechanical keyboard

Don't forget, the software also fucks with other peripherals from different brands because these gaming companies want you to invest in their ecosystem and only their ecosystem. Your post is quality in this regard.
The price and lack of PBT keycaps were the two things that I found off putting. I was not aware of the past LED issues or software problems.
>>
>>59349952
LED and software problems with corsair keyboard have been a problem since forever. Even if you read the FAQs in the OP there is a mention of these problems, and that more then two years. To be fair Ducky did have similar issues, but they fixed them by moving the LEDs onto a separate PCB and opted for higher quality smd LEDs. Plus they were cheaper to begin with. If corsair does fix these issues, improves the overall build quality and fixes their buggy software then you would see more recommendations, but it still hasn't happened yet.

Not who you were responding to, but I've been out of the mech kb game for awhile, and had assumed those knockoff switches were, well knockoffs, considering their cost difference.

So I can plainly see the texturing on the switch stem which would make the actuation motion a rougher travel. A quick search gave me a several close-up comparison shots
Which you can see the difference in contacts. Has there been any issues of QC or reliability since they became available? The only thing I've seen have some reports of "wobble(?)".

I had the 100% MX Brown-based Ducky One with PBT/keycaps on my wishlist to purchase later:
https://mechanicalkeyboards.com/shop/index.php?l=product_detail&p=1684

However if Gateron Browns are superior I'd have to reconsider, but the closest-quality board available that I can find is this one (reviews of the enclosure itself and stabilizer system are iffy):
https://www.amazon.com/Mechanical-Keyboard-Backlight-Magicforce-Qisan/dp/B01HHTFSIK
and then add this Vortex Doubleshot/PBT Keycap set:
https://mechanicalkeyboards.com/shop/index.php?l=product_detail&p=1329

Thoughts or suggestions?

Best chink mechanical keyboard for 50€?

Doesn't look like my cup of tea. I would rather get something like a tomoko for 30 bucks. Or if you are in euro land then get a cheap cherry g80 for 10-30€ from a surplus store. I know some of the g80-18xx can go as low as 2€ since there is a warehouse with thousands of them just waiting to be bought

Logitech K120 (cheap ~15$ keyboard)

I went to best buy and tried out cherry mx reds and blues since that's all they had. I liked both but prefer the red since I am going to be gaming and they felt more responsive.

I was looking at the Corsair Gaming K95 RGB PLATINUM. I'm open to suggestion if there is something better. I have limited desk space. I would like a kb that is under 18in" if possible. Doesn't matter if it's full or TKL.
>>
I've got a budget($40) monoprice mx blue keyboard with a broken spacebar. I know the stabilizer bar is fucked somewhat, and I also believe the switch is faulty, too. I've let it sit on the shelf for a while, and even tried to use it, but now I'm moving to a different house. I don't like the keyboard that much, and I don't want to take it with me, but I'm a damn hoarder and I can't let it go. 97% or 98% or whatever of it still works! What am I supposed to do with it? Keep it just to have a bunch of blue switches on hand?
>>
>>59355085

Reading the pastebin it says to stay away from Corsair boards so would really like an alternative recommendation to the one I mentioned.
>>
where can I buy a sample set in europe?
I can only find stores in the US with ridiculous shipping costs.
I don't want to pay 40$ for 4 keys.

Buying the keys individually would cost me 15 plus 7 euro shipping per key too, so that's not an option as well.

you could get something like a Leopold fc980m since it's a full size keyboard that's about the same size as a TKL pic related. If you want some thing cheaper then you can get the original cherry g80-1800 design that the Leopold is based of off for around 70 bucks, though none of those options have LEDs. If you want a gayming keyboard then get anything made by cooler master. Ducky also makes great keyboards too. If you like the gaymer aesthetic then you can get the shine 6, but I would never buy one.

you can get most of the keyboards I listed at mechanicalkeyboards.com

to be honest you could just go to advanced search and fill out the filters then just buy whatever keyboard on there you like

For mostly gaming and light internet usage, but also typing isn't so uncommon, what would be the best switches from Cherry MX ?

>>59356273
I'd only get Cherry blues. The ones you mentioned are all superior if you get the Gateron clones. That said, I'd probably go for Gateron reds if you want something really smooth, or browns if you need the tactile bump, which I think is a lot better than on Cherry browns.

clears are the best switches out the entire cherry shit line up. Look for gaterons instead. Shame that there isn't a lighter variant of them out there that isn't sold by scammers

It's mostly personal preference. Some people like heavier switches, but personally I prefer lighter ones. Still, I wouldn't get any of those from Cherry because I tried them in the past and didn't like how scratchy they are, but do like the Gateron clones. You can order a bunch of chink keyboards with Gateron switches that ship worldwide, the only downside I guess is that most of them are usually on a small form-factor, unless that's what you're looking for.
>>
>>59356671
So do you still need the arrow keys? The Anne Pro recommended from another anon is a good 60% option for $80, but if you need the arrow keys you can get a TADA68 on AliExpress for $90, or a bit cheaper from Taobao, though you'll probably need an agent.
>>
>>59356674
Nah, I prefer full size, but never owning a mech keyboard I'm afraid of ordering some shit that won't live up to expectations and I'll think of mechs as memes
Quick google search seemed to indicate that gaterons are indeed better than cherry, sadly cherry is so widely available
>>
>>59356694
I don't really need the arrow keys. Also, are these both wireless keyboards? I'd really prefer wired.

so far I learned that Cherry MX Red is the quietest, and the better version of it is Cherry MX Speed, but I think Speed only comes with that ugly keyboard, so these two are the ones which I prefer, but if you guys know any switches that are fast and silent for "gaming" purposes I'm all ears
>layout
what ever
>form factor
doesn't really matter but I prefer a full keyboard for gaming purposes, and I also like multimedia buttons
>backlight
no
>current keyboard
standard usb keyboard made in china
>>
>>59356724
Both are wired, but the Anne Pro also has Bluetooth which is completely optional.
>>
>>59356735
Is the TADA68 the best out of them? Are the Gateron Red switches any good?
>>
>>59349669
What model number is that? Never seen the grey/white variant before.
>>
>>59356713
You're mostly stuck to Cherry then I guess. If you can, go to a store and try the switches first, because that's the best way to figure out if mechs are a meme. I didn't like the Cherry browns I tried but loved blues, and I don't regret anything.
>>
>>59356759
It depends what you want. The TADA68 has only white backlight and a non-standard layout which might make it slightly harder to find custom keycaps that fit it, but I think it's only a single key that's not that common. The Anne Pro has RGB backlighting, a more compact form-factor and a standard layout.
And yes, Gateron reds are great, and probably the best linear switches out there. Blacks are also nice if you need something a bit heavier.
>>
>>59356759
I own both, the TADA68 with Gateron browns and the Anne PRO with Gateron reds if you wanna know any specifics.

>Cherry MX Red is the quietest
how many times will people spread this fake meme. The sound of bottoming out is louder then the actuating mechanism. As a result its even possible for reds to be louder then blues.
Any way gut a full size magicforce from china
>>
>>59357010
People should also stop saying "X switch is louder than Y switch", specially when considering bottoming out. The backplates play a major role on that. If all you're considering is the switch actuation, then yes, reds are probably the quietest, but if you got something like an aluminum or steel plate then the bottoming out can get loud as fuck.

friend of mine gave me his Corsair K95 (white LEDs, has the old 'gamer' logo that looked terrible) it had 30-35 dead LEDs all cherry MX red, and the volume wheel and G keys wouldn't work, none of the media keys worked,
>bought chink blue LEDs
>made a pattern of blue and white drawn out
>desoldered all the dead LEDs and moved all the white ones that worked into pattern

Their proprietary switch is some bastardization between between reds, blacks and rubber domes. Could never get used to it because of the cap quality. You can test a G810 or G910 right now and it'll be the same switch.
