16GB is pointless unless you run retarded games all the time while doing other shit in the background.

8GB is literally the perfect amount of RAM for people who aren't gaymurtards. I have one 8GB stick in my PC and I don't need to buy another.

I've had games use more than 8gb without anything running in the background.. and they aren't retarded AAA games, just normal games

I have foobar, chrome, steam open and I'm using 7.4 GB (yes because of chrome)

Why limit yourself? Ram is so cheap
>>

top kek, DDR4 sticks doubled its price since autumn of 2016. I'm glad that I bought mine earlier.
>>

>>
>>59328130
16GB provides very little benefit, RAM is used for caching so even if you "max" it out, it still doesn't effect performance much

I don't use that buggy chromeshit. I use Firefox and my RAM usage is literally 1.2GB/8GB right now.

If you think 8 GB is "limiting yourself" you need mental help and treatment for gaming addiction.

The only good part of being an early adopter for Skylake. Microcenter reduced prices on all ram kits to tempt people into upgrading. Got mine before the stupid as fuck price jump. $130 for a single 16GB kit of the same stuff I already have. Out of their minds.

The RAM meme really bugs me, my friend got a desktop for free from some kid because he thought it was broken. Turned out he wanted 16 gb of ram so he used 4 4GB sticks of ram from different manufacturers so the thing crashed regularly. Removed the 2 newer sticks of RAM and it worked perfectly.

To be fair, I open up close to 30 tabs at once at times. I go to my 5 or so sources for news. News ranging from politics to technology, IT security etc. Then with those 5 tabs open, I open each and every story I find interesting and would like to watch/read. This on top of my anime streaming site, and 4 or so tabs from my favorite Bulgarian cheese grating chat catalogue.

Well in defense of your uncle, a hard drive and RAM upgrade can breathe life into an old machine. I did the same thing for a co-worker. He got an old C2D office desktop that his job was throwing away. Tossed a cheap $30 SSD into it for OS and upgraded from 2GB to 8GB of ddr2-667. Machine was a great speedy general purpose PC for what amounted to $80 out of pocket.

That was a leap forward in thinking. I own many movies, series, and animes on Blu-ray and DVD. All of which I ripped, encoded, and threw onto my file server. The only series I stream are really really long one that would cost $600+ to get the whole series. (Naruto, Shippuden, bleach, hunterXhunter, Fullmetal Alchemist, FA brotherhood, evanglion) and any other animes my co-workers and friends recommend.

Not to mention the site gives an opportunity to stumble across other great animes. You don't like paying, that's fine. Doesn't mean I now want to screw over the viewer and make owning copies illegal. As for the subs, I cannot comment on quality. I no speak moon rune. So long as I can follow the conversation and what the hell is going on, I'm fine.

I fell for the 8GB meme.

Then when I tried to play games and got ass fucked by most of them, recent games have this bizarre tendency of having built-in ram black holes (Memory leaks ala Forza 6 Apex, Witcher 3 and Battlefield 1).

After getting 16GB, those problems got solved.

Also, two sticks of 8gb are only 1.5x the price of two sticks of 4gb, poorfaggot.
>>
>>59328184

Yeah, me getting 9fps after Witcher 3 hitting 94% of ram usage is totally not Ram related.

I'm easily pushing 14GB without even tying in regular everyday usage. Might have to upgrade to 32 soon, which kind of sucks because I originally got 2x4GB and added another 2 sticks of 4GB a couple years go, so all slots are full. How retarded would it be to replace 2 of them with 8GB sticks, so I have 24GB with matching 4GB and 8GB sticks in the dual channel slots?

Seriously... It's like anything else. You may not be a user who needs it. But there are those out there who do. You may not be part of that club and that's ok. Also there's alot of people out there who don't need it but want it anyway. Look at it like this. I don't need a new mustang to get me to and from work.... a cheap used civic would do the same job and in terms of getting me from point a to point b be no less effective... But I want the mustang and I like the mustang so I pay for the mustang. Your priorities and he'll even budget may lie elsewhere but that doesn't mean others are wrong for not falling into the same cookie cutter that made you.

>Talked to a friend recently about how my computer is a 6 year old piece of shit and I need to replace the whole thing except probably the PSU
>Asked about what kind of hardware I have currently and what I want
>Moving from a Phenom II X4 955/4GB RAM/GTX 460 to Ryzen 1600X/8GB RAM/8GB RX480 build

I'm going to upgrade everything anyway but is he on the right track? I kind of don't trust what he's saying here.
