LMAO, Ryzen is already causing a severe bottleneck at 4k.

This is a blue board which means that it's for everybody (Safe For Work content only). If you see any adult content, please report it.

Why don't they mention which intel they used?

Also I thought the gaming Ryzens would be the R5s because theoretically they should be able to achieve higher clock speeds thanks to less heat and less cores.

im pretty happy with my 1080 and my 1700 overclocked.

the difference i noticed in performance when gaming at 1440p 144hz g-sync was that the dips i got with my 6700k are gone. the overall fps appears to be about 5-10fps lower but its way more consistant.

Something else i noticed. i can render out a movie iin premiere while gaming and its still smooth AF. i could never do this on the 6700k lol, and i had that at 4.5ghz.

im glad i changed to AMD :)
>>
I'm still gonna go from a 6700k to 1800x just because I need more cores for work related. A loss of 5-10 fps really makes 0 diffierence in games.

So basically all Intel/Nvidia sponsored software (like Hitman or anything adobe) are running like shit on AMD hardware, but everything either independent or sponsored by AMD gets maximum out of any hardware it's given.

Seriously, have a look at which games Ryzen loses in, and in which it wins, and then have a look at whose logo is on the cover. Either Intel/Nvidia are really shit with code optimisation, or they are doing a shit job intentionally.

Converting the histograms above gives the following:
In other words, Ryzen has a problem at the lower end. It's numbers at the 25th % and up are fine. In fact, both have the same median. It's between .1% and 25% that the problem exists.

GTA V

1800X
.1% 70 fps
1% 74 fps
10% 82 fps
25% 82 fps
50% 90 fps
75% 98 fps
90% 106 fps
99% 126 fps

7700K
.1% 82 fps
1% 90 fps
10% 102 fps
25% 106 fps
50% 110 fps
75% 118 fps
90% 126 fps
99% 138 fps

Here, the 1800X is consistently about 80-85% as fast as the 7700K and the results are far more clustered for both chips.

Personally, I'd find these kind of numbers with .1%, 1%, and 50% and an included histogram more useful than what we get now. And with Excel, it's not hard to do.

The big thing people aren't understanding with SMT is that the Window's scheduler can't decide when it's best to move to a logical thread or a physical thread. It's up to developers to try out their code.

Ideally the scheduler would have some machine learning to automate scheduling for SMT, but it doesn't.

Of course, months later - when no patch will be written - since there are no problems, everyone will just talk about something else.
I suspect it will be the 4 cores that will underperform again, and they will find a suspect again.

(Playing plenty of games and actually you are right. Of course, none will agree on /g/ as they mostly just watch animu with mpv and shill or shitpost. But indeed, games never really catched up. Maybe a few titles, that are used in benchmarks can indeed scale up.

Then there are the other 99.9% of the games that you will actually play, and you are a lucky guy if they scale up to two or three cores at all.

MMOs? One core? Maybe two?
ARMA3? One thread per each task, so max 4, but in reality thats more like 1 maxed out and 3 doing fuck nothing.
Alright I won't list all, but yeah. Most games, just like how most apps and tasks... are single or few threaded.)

I just work as a programmer and play games.
Also thanks to my mobile i7, I soon realized how many games actually do NOT scale.
Or, rather, how many actually do.

There are two categories with a very, very few exceptions:
A) Cannot scale
These games would improve thousandfold if they were able to, but just cannot. ARMA3, or any other Korean MMO (B&S, AA, TERA, whatever).
B) Can scale. But would run on a fucking potato. Battlefield, Overwatch and so on.
I mean, my alarm clock could run Overwatch.

But hey, games are not the only one.
My PC boots up? Single thread.
My virtual machine boots up, I compile, I do work? Single thread.
Launch my work applications? Single thread.
I code and debug? Single thread.
Browse websites? Single thread.
Encode music? Single thread.
Have to work in PS, manipulate images, convert them? Single thread.

The only thing top of my head that is multi-threaded and I use it is compression.
But compression is sometimes better if you don't thread it.

lmao?
Compilers are usually multithreaded.
Many IDEs are multi threaded.
Browsers are multithreaded.

Holy shit. Half of what you said is fucking wrong as can be. Invalidates your entire post. Fuck off, moron.

But why should I bother with you when you're the literal retard saying that 4 cores are more than enough. Real good goy, you are.
>>
>>59339820
SIXTEEN THREADS....
wait, whats the cool word for it...hekkaideka THREAD CPU?!
(yes I copied that out and I see there are no prefixes, only up to 12.)

>>59339828
> Compilers are multi-threaded
Projects are not.

Just because you can compile the kernel with a make -n+1 flag does not mean everything will compile that way.
Most projects that are commercial or private/homebrew will always be single threaded.
Even Gentoo has flags which projects cannot compile parallel.

> Many IDEs
A graphical UI is multi-threaded? What?
> Browsers?
No browser on the market has threaded render / worker.
Chrome splits the tabs into separate threads, indeed.
But it cannot use two threads to process a webpage.
Servo promised a few things, but Mozilla went down the shitter since.

Well I am not Korean with dedicated 1000+ APM for playing 10 games at once.

This. It's fucking ridiculous. The available motherboards got released too soon and Wangdows needs to get on the ball and fix some shit.Wow, it's like we've never seen shit like this happen before.

Bait how? I am not rooting for anyone.
I just want strong single thread performance because that's what I... or we... or everyone uses 99% of the time.
Trust me, I have long waited for multi-threading. I had a Core 2 Quad, and i7. Friend bought a Phenom X6.
But it never fucking came. For neither of us, we both got fucked.

12 years have passed and the industry almost made no progress.
Best we have is multi-threaded movie playback/decode/encode.
Alright, you can cherry pick this, but if you look at the big picture, it's a big sad fucking picture.
Instead of the "everything will use all the cores" we have the "you might get lucky" situation.

(And of course, we can now compile the Linux kernel in a few minutes. Yay!)
>>
>>59336958
Because removing the GPU bottleneck and exposing AMDs weak core performance is bad.
>>
>>59339799
that sucks. or rather it tells you how much non-unix OS sucks

for me boot up is split into a ton of separate services by systemd, which means lots of concurrent processes that don't wait for each other and benefit from smp
same for virtual machines.
I don't code stuff as one big .c file so big parts of the compilation step benefit greatly from smp

I don't encode music much, but it tends to be by the album so a lame/oggenc process per song means great multicore scaling

>for me boot up is split into a ton of separate services by systemd
Windows also uses parallel boot.
I meant a "boot to desktop".
And that's it. Because the rest of the applications that load will be all single thread ones.

> I don't code stuff as one big
Well, I worked on Java projects, bigger C++ projects, basically what they had at the company I worked for at the time.
For example, the release always managed to be parallel, which was cool and all.
But of course the debug build would require single thread building which was like 99% of the builds between each release, so very useful.

When I have to process text, do whatever work... I mean you don't parallelize everything in your code.
> inb4 I use X language that does it automatically
C# comes closest with the dumb friendly Parallels and such, but it's far from automatic / universal.

How so?

ico has called you.
the contas are setting up your linching as we speak.
the kais are just sad you murdered them, and they already already suffer severely from an inferiority complex.
the hectas and above are not bothered, since they realized you wouldn't be able to figure out how to combine them all together and they're douches that think everything is beneath them anyways.

I can see why you don't like more than 4 cores, since you can't count too good.

Having a process single threaded or not is a thing, but don't forget you're probably using more than one program at a time and that the OS might have stuff to do as well. That's called multitasking and the more cores you have the better it is.
