The iMac is a good computer. It won't compete specs-wise with an ATX tower you built yourself, but considering its footprint, its general quality of engineering, the surprisingly serviceable sound quality of its built-in speakers, and its really fucking good screen, you could do a lot worse. I've seen the 2015 27" 5K iMac on sale for like $1300. That's *really* good.

You might have a case with the iPhone, as its display has gone neglected for some time, but the 9.7" iPad Pro's display was lauded for being one of the best displays ever to be made available for consumers, and the Retina iMac was released at a time when a standalone 5K display cost ~$100 less than the iMac did, and wasn't as good.
