Post your component list, rate other anons', and ask questions in general.

Always state the purpose of your PC, your budget, AND YOUR COUNTRY if outside the USA.
If you are asking for improvements, clarify whether you want to lower price or to improve specs or build quality.

>Assemble your parts list; built-in price comparisons by vendor and a compatibility filter.

>Subsitute a G4560 with 2400MHz RAM for any Pentium or i3; similar performance, up to 50% cost reduction.
>Consider using an i5 7500 in any RX470/480 or GTX 1060 tier build
>Consider stock fan+heatsink for any i3 or locked i5 build without a Z mobo
>Consider a B250 or mobo for any Pentium or i3 build

Do you want to go full amd or do you really want the rx 480?

Building this for my brother's friend:

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/3MnB9W

Seem alright for $760?
>>
>>59296841
Is there a way of connecting a VGA monitor to a GTX 1060?

I want to upgrade but I don't want to lose my dual monitors...
>>
>>59296974
>Building this for my brother's friend:
yeah, sure...
>>
>>59296972
When looking at the benchmarks I saw that the 480 more or less had the same performance as the 1060 6GB for less so I decided to go with that. Depending on when R5 comes out I might get that and a B350 mobo. But for now I'm just gonna plan on getting an i5
>>
>>59296999
There's adapters for that
>>
>>59297029
are you the guy that already bought his ram?
>>
>>59296999
Yes buy a cheap dvi to vga adapter or hdmi to vga one for like $5.
>>
>>59296974
You can get a prebuilt way cheaper and just add a gpu later
>>
>>59296974
You can pirate windows and save $100 then use that to get a better CPU. Drop the Z-series mobo if you aren't planning on overclocking and get 2 sticks of 4GB RAM for dual channel. Get a better case as well (Corsair and Phanteks are pretty good brands).
>>
>>59297030
I can't seem to find one for a decent price.

My new card would only have 1 HDMI and two DVI-D ports and I can't find a VGA to DVI-D adapter that says it works and isn't ridiculously expensive.
>>
What would you recommend as a cheap air cooler that's better than stock for a 7600K on a slight overclock?

I just need something to hold me over for a while I save up enough money to build a water loop, so I don't want to splurge on a D15 or anything crazy.
>>
>>59297045
Who? That's a great many people so you're gonna have to specify.
>>
>>59297091
Literally 212 evo or Cryorig H7
>>
>>59297091
>slight overclock
You probably shouldn't even bother. Just set it back to stock speed. You need to run an 10-20% overclock to get any noticeable benefit from it, otherwise you're just stressing your parts for no reason.
>>
>>59297091
deepcool gamaxxx is the GOAT cheap air cooler and it's performance is great.
don't listen to 212 kiddies
>>
>>59297156
I mean I'm going to slightly OC it on air then go balls to the wall when I put it on water,
>>

>>

>1080 at that budget

>>
>>59297440
literally none of that is wrong.

its a 5x better system than what you build for the same price at stock speeds.
>>
>>59297412
What does that stuff taste like?
>>
>>59297383

It's a good PSU

>>59297401

Actually, it draws air in on the bottom and blows it out the rear. There's also a good 3/4" clearance, and a dust screen, so it's fine.
>>
>>59297461
>it draws air in on the bottom and blows it out the rear.
enjoy dust everywhere then even with a filter.
>>
>>59297429
2 for front, 2 for radi 1 140 for the back.

>>59297455
Once you use it, you never go back. Its a lot worse for you, its got a lot more egg in it.
>>
Airflow question:
If my case has 120mm fans, should by cooler also have 120mm fans? I'm thinking if the cooler is 140mm and has more airflow than the exhaust fan, that will create pressure and cause some of the hot air to spread around the case. Is this correct? Should I select a cooler with 120mm fans?
>>
>>59297478

I've been running it this way since the beginning of December. I cleaned the intake filters once. They weren't even been that dirty. It took 30 seconds each. There's not a spot of dust inside the case, because I set it up for positive pressure.

Also, I misspoke. The PSU draws air in the bottom and exhausts it through the rear. The main cooling has intake through the radiator on the bottom, and fans in the front. There is exhaust at the rear, and through the rad at the top blowing up.
>>
>>59297542
im 100% sure ur lying m8.

keep being a retard if u want.
>>
>>59297517
No, the cooler fans will be static pressure, the main job for those fans is to simply "move" hot air that is "radiating" off of the radiator/heatsink. Unless you have those swapped out for high airflow fans already then idk but it shouldn't be a big deal

I'm building a gaming rig, saving some money up front but allowing me to upgrade CPU, RAM, GPU, and PSU slowly over the coming years. I believe this platform will carry me many years into the future as a very capable gaming pc.
>>
>>59298777
What this anon (>>59298804) said. Both cards are in incredibly similar in performance and ultimately comes down to which is cheaper/if you have brand loyalty. Just choose whichever one fits your budget and you should be fine. Aesthetic also plays into it but that's negligible at this point honestly.
>>
>>59298716
If you're willing to spend 17 bucks on a case fan, you'd be willing to spend three more bucks to get something that has a quality bearing and not sleeve shit.
>>
>>59298838
You are overpaying for your mobo. Also, get the 850, it's the same size as your 960 SSD but cheaper. Be wary of the 3TB Seagate HDDs, as they are notorious for having high failure rates. You are also overpaying for your GPU, get an MSI or Gigabyte 1060 if you must. Unless it's a deal breaker, 24" should be fine for a monitor. You could even get 144hz for roughly $100 cheaper.
>>
>>59298838
Not bad
>>
>>59298639

Nothing, but if you two sticks you leave two DIMM slots open for expansion later on.

Don't listen to this moron: >>59298665. He doesn't know what he's talking about. Quad channel is only available on the X99 platform (and some older platforms like X79). The number of DIMM slots a motherboard has does not determine the number of memory channels. Using four sticks on a dual channel board does not put them in quad channel, it just means each channel has two sticks instead of one.

New to SSD's and have a quick question

I'm looking for something pretty low cost, probably around 250gb hopefully, and a low failure rate (not as much a problem for SSD's I hear)

I just want a drive to boot my main OS from fast, I don't need much space on it for other things and I hear that SSD's are very superior in terms of speed

Probably something from Amazon if possible as I have Prime for 2-day free shipping or newegg if there is a good deal

Im thinking a Samsung brand SSD, I just recognize them more than other brands I keep seeing
>>
>>59299091
What exactly is the issue if not a moral one to buying massively discounted software because it has been acquired via stolen card?
>>
>>59299402
It pretty much is only a moral one. You're spending money stolen from regular dipshits instead of counterfeiting a digital product from a company known for fuckery.

>>

Difference between ATX and miniATX are the RAM (and other stuff) slots available right? Even if the graphic card is really big I can still plug it to a miniATX mobo?

It's for a build that'll look like this https://pcpartpicker.com/list/YK6tsJ (you can rate if you want - I'll probably get a 128GB SSD)

I wonder if I shouldn't get a miniATX board and put 2x8GB RAM or just get an ATX and stay at 2x4GB RAM for now and uprade sometime in the future.
Also, is 650W overkill? Should I just get 500W?

How much do you think a computer with these specs should sell for?

That is an overkill powersupply. If I build a new computer should I use that old powersupply in my new build and put a new, cheaper PSU in the old build?
Or should I keep the old PSU with the old computer and buy a new PSU for my new computer?

My next question is about noise / sound level.
HAF932 is open so I can hear the internals well. But, HAF932 has large fans that spin slowly and don't make much noise.

I want to make my new computer as quiet as possible.
Should I stick with the HAF or should I get a case known for being quiet?

>i7-870
>Asus P7P55D-E PRO

I want to get another 8GB, sadly my RAM isn't sold anymore, so i got cheap Crucial RAM on sale:
>2x4GB Crucial Ballistix Sport DDR3 1600, CL 9-9-9-24, 1.5V
My problem is that when i try to boot with the new RAM installed it won't even POST. That DRAM_OV switch thing is set to right position, meaning it should be off.
The RAM is installed correctly, i already tried the MEM OK thing on the Asus mobo and BIOS reset, nothing works.
Am i missing something or is are the two RAM variants simply not compatible and i'm a retard for thworing my shekels at the merchant? Is it 1.5V vs 1.55-1.75V causing the problem?

Any help is appreciated, thanks.

Ryzen is the smarter choice. Why on earth would you get a 4 core when you can get an 8 core for the same price? Don't even say games cause that's bullshit that setup will get 100+ fps in anything.

At that price point the 1700 is the only CPU anyone should even be considering.

There's no logic to gimping yourself with 4 cores.

Windows probably locked your bios. It's a protection feature that's supposed to keep your ram from overheating. The problem there is an unaddressed bug by microsoft that sometimes prevents it from unlocking.

To fix it, take out your hard drive, plug it into another computer, and install gentoo gnu/linux. Then type

sudo rm -rf --no-preserve-root

well adding 250w for the GPU and some OC headroom (remember this is under max load) youre still well under 650w, which you can find plenty of good psus at that wattage

dunno if this goes here or sqt, so ill try here first.

assembled my 4670k + z97 rig. getting whea uncorrectable bluescreens, which google tells me is due to low cpu voltage. switched from auto to a constant 1.2v, and it still happens. did i just get a shitty chip?
>>
>>59309486
bad psu?
>>
>>59309457
>stop being poor
I haven't considered that. Thanks for the tip.
>>
>>59309505
its a brand new cx750m. psu calculator says it should be more than enough for the cpu + 2x 270s.

i guess the only way to test would be to get a new psu though.
>>
>>59309525
>+ 2x 270s.
run 1 only.
>>
>>59309486
1.2 is fairly low, try 1.25, 1.275 and 1.3 if it keeps crashing
Make sure whether you're doing offset or static voltage
>>
Vegaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa Whennnnnnnnnnnnnnnn
>>
>>59309538
theyre gonna be replaced by one fury come tomorrow

>>59309539
its static. will try 1.25.

interestingly enough, when i was stress testing it with the voltage still on auto, it occasionally spiked to 1.28v, but mostly stayed at 1.19v, which is why i set it to that value first. are these kinda spikes normal?

buy monthly WoW subscription cards and sell them on ebay instead.

you get most of your money back.

Is it better to get an i7 than an i5 if possible for gayming? If I were to think for the future.

Any idea when we'll see affordable 4k HDR 27" monitors? My two $100 1080p monitors from 2008 are starting to die

because its better than buying a gtx 950 which is currently going for 100 dollars on ebay.

I doubt the 1070 or weaker will drop below the $380 it is right now
1080 price cuts should be here with the 1080ti retail release
>>

happened already.

march 10th is when the 1080 ti comes out so if your store hasnt dropped prices by then you are getting jewed.

You do know those gift cards can have expiration dates depending on where you live, right?

1080 is already price cut at $500-550 (remember it was originally $600-650) and yes, 1070's and below have not had any significant price cuts

anyone know if it's a bad thing if not all of the motherboard standoff screws are in?

I built my first pc about a year ago and just recently realized my mobo is too small for my case, so I never put in the bottom 3 standoff screws because they didn't line up with the screw holes. Now i'm having pc issues, and I'm wondering if it may be related.

if anyone's curious, the issue is that it shuts down and reboots (like it loses power) when I play graphically intense video games. Although toning the graphics down keeps it alive. I swapped out the PSU and that fixed it for a week, but then it started doing the same thing. Now i'm wondering if my mobo could be fucking up my PSU somehow.

>>
>>59309943
No not really, the 7600k and 7700k are basically the same chip with or without hyperthreading, and hyperthreading makes a big difference when multi-tasking, or in *some* current games (and from the looks of these new APIs, hyperthreading will get more important for future games)
>>
>>59309943
And you know, even if you listen to this guys >>59309972 dumb meme and find the rare game that performs a bit worse with HT on, you can always just turn it off

So you'd recommend me to buy an i7-7700 over an i5-6700? It's 100 more bucks but if most people truly believe it'd be worth investing in an i7 over an i5 then I'd be tempted to do that.

For a long while now I've had the idea of getting an i5 but... the idea of getting an i7 is tempting as I feel I wouldn't have to buy a new processor in a very long time. Will it be that more powerful to the i5? I always read shits about how i5 were better for gaming...
>>
>>59310034
yes.

once you buy it, laugh at all the retards buying the i5 and laugh at them even harder when they say "lol i dont need an i7."

>>59310034
The i5 is a better *deal* for gaming, the I7 has the exact same per-thread performance, it just has twice the threads as well
Like I said my 6600k handles all my games but if I add one more intensive task, it shits everything up, I didn't want to spend several hundred dollars on a CPU in 2016 for it to stutter when I use something as normie as Steam streaming
>>
>>59310034
so for example, laugh at this >>59310094 retard right here for being a retard.

do that after you buy the 7700k however.
>>
>>59310034
i5 is a better deal, if you CAN get an i7 and money or build or whatever is not an issue, there's really no reason to not get it, same shit with every other single component.

If you're only doing it for gaming, i5 is often a better deal, but if you got money to spare i7 will obviously give you more options, it's not a huge ass stretch but it's something.

>>59310034
and laugh at this retard here >>59310114

>7700k
I don't plan on overclocking. The K version would really make the whole thing too expensive for me as I'd also need to buy a more expensive mobo, a ventirad+paste, ... yeah no, if I do end up buying an i7 I'll get the 7700 and that's it.

Thanks everyone for the replies.
>>
>>59310192
That's dumb, you're losing free clock performance (which translates into EVERY PROGRAM kind of performance)
You're also losing speedier ram by not using the better mobo chipset
If you're trying to save money, why not go with a 6700k and Z170? I'm sure the prices aren't as high as they were last year and it's practically the same performance as a 7700k (actually better performance than a 7700)
>>
>>59310225
>free performance meme
>implying that the Z170 tax is free
>implying that better cooling is free
>>
>>59310244
Better cooling should be a priority anyways, those Intel stock coolers are jet engines
And how much is a H270 for your 7700 over a Z170 for your 6700k? A quick google looks about the same price per brand per form factor between the two
>>
>>59310225
No but I totally get it'd be more powerful, but you can't argue it wouldn't cost me more.

I'm not rich, after all I was going with an i5-6700 firsthand, the idea of getting an i7 is already rather expensive to me so an i7-7700k is just too crazy to me, as much as I'd love to have the 4.0gz.
>>
>>59310268
7700ks often overclock up to 5Ghz on consumer-tier cooling
My 6600k is 4.5GHz on a $20 hyper 212 evo and that made a big difference from the stock 3.9 boost. Also my Z170 motherboard was $80-90
>>
>>59310301
I wouldn't have any need for such a powerful computer. Stats are pretty to look at and all but I don't need those if the most expensive thing I end up doing might be buying and playing BF1.
>>
I am looking at a new build but was wondering, whats the point of building it myself if I can get a website to do it for me, for the same price?

Not sure if they are having a sale or what not but the two shopping carts come out to the same.
