So I ordered a z3 compact and holy hell is the quality control bad on these.
I googled my issues to see if I got a shitty repaired unit, but no, a lot of these issues are pretty common, like how the screen creaks when you touch it, screen separating from the body, etc

Me and my wife have our own business and also a 2 year old walking around. My wife has had a 4s and now a 5s. Both were put in the toilet. The 5s is all that is left now it has it's screen replaced about 4 times and had water damage 2-3 times. Now it won't boot and has a red flash etc. Bottomline she needs a tank of a phone that is also good for business. Mostly facebook/instagram but also on a bit of a budget since we made investments and have another baby coming in a month. I tought about buying a new 5s with warranty. Budget should be under 300e. Anyone have a better idea?
>>
bought myself a xiaomi mi 5

I love it, it has great features, on par with flagships really, for about 250 euros. I especially like how light it is, it's hard to quantify such a thing, but it does improve the experience of holding it and using it over time quite a bit.

the only thing bothering me right now is the fucking locked bootloader, still trying to figure out how to unlock it without having to ask permission so i can mess around with it.

sqt is being less than helpful so I'm posting this here, it does involved mobile OS

But does anyone know how to flash a rom onto a chinese tablet when I can't activate debug mode in android settings?

It's a cube iwork8air, originally it had dual OS but I killed the android portion and have it running windows only right now, although it still has the option in the boot screen. I have access to the uefi bios, Fast DNS boot does nothing. I assume there's a way to activate usb debugging in windows?

But all the googling in the world has only led to options requiring debug mode or to install androidx86.

>>59308022

The Xperia phones would be perfect if the build quality wasn't so shoddy on them.
Same goes with things like the Galaxy s5, but that cheap, all plastic build.
2014 Moto x would be perfect if the camera wasn't so bad.
ZUK Z2 would be alright, but the camera and lackluster screen are really off-putting
Anything Xiaomi is right out because being in the US

An SD800 is all I need in performance, anything more is excess. I don't mind buying refurbished or used if replacement parts aren't expensive/cost more than the phone itself (if needed).
It's why I gave up the note 4 I had for a bit, such terrible burn in and a new screen costs almost as much as the phone itself.

Vodaphone
I'm a uni student, keep it cheap as hell, but functional. I just need Kik, Skype, text, email. Basic student stuff. The ability to create a wifi hotspot would be a major turn on for me.

I'd like to do a sim-only plan with Vodaphone. Because I mean, it's not too bad in price. So any ol' phone (GSM) should do.
Please try to keep me "price < £45" or so. I really don't need features, just durability!!

2 months tops (actually just one but i'd wait at least another month before someone notices if it has any hardware issues), just wait a bit more, the G4 Play is absolutely not worth it anymore when the G5 keeps the removable battery but is 1080p, more powerful and comes with all the sensors other flagship phones have (accelerometer, gyro, compass, proximity, baro, motherfucking fingerprint scanner with gestures) compared to the G4P which only has accelerometer and proximity.

I'd buy it if my country wasn't guaranted to get the gimped 2GB ram version, just like how it also only got the 2GB ram version of the G4+ when it could go up to 4GB, even europe was enjoying the 3GB version and over there they always get the shaft when it comes to technology.

S5 was an under performing pile of shit that gave me problems since day one. Part of why I'm willing to gamble on chinese phones. At least if its shit I didn't spend a lot of money for it to be shit. Every one I've had has had heat issues, this one had a screen that flickered at low brightness, rebooted randomly sometimes, ran way slower than it should have (Nexus 4 shamed it, would have kept using it if I could here), and in general was an ass pain of formatting the ones I had and blocking stock apps to make it run passably. Samsung doesn't deserve their high end pricing. Actually had 3 of them. First one cooked itself (note 7 was not their first problem), 2nd had screen issues, and 3rd one is the one falling apart and all of them still look new I've still got every phone I've ever owned so I know its not my caring for it.

I was looking at XDA and people were saying G4 Play wasn't rooted but the G4 was rooted? (thinking of doing the amazon ad version and just rooting and removing them)

Thinking of just doing the G4 its an alright step up on the S5 and I don't need a high end phone for anything I use. Hating samsung and not needing a monster phone you think a good idea? Thanks for the input though, last few phones have been a real stink its nice to have a 2nd opinion.

oh so you just want a phone to get you through the day and do some light gaming/use every single app without lag, not some ridiculous monster with 6gb of ram and the latest snapdragon solely for facebook like most people do, right? motorola is king when it comes to this, mainly their moto g phones, right now you could go for the g4 play or wait for the g5, do not get the regular g4 as it comes with a lot of issues, most of them related to hardware, and since you come from 3 shitty samsung s5s i doubt you'd be willing to put up with them like most people who buy the g4/g4 plus for its low price do

the issues are as follows: screen burn-in, overheating, ghost touches; the overheating is actually a problem of the faulty snapdragon617 (8 cores on a phone, total meme until they get their shit together with them) but the screen burn-in and ghost touches are because motorola used a extremely shitty screen on them, lcd panels are NOT supposed to get screen burn-in, ever, it's more or less impossible, more so in such a tiny screen that isn't on 24/7 like a tv

if you could wait just a bit i will take a screenshot of my moto g4 play running resurrection remix to prove it is rooted, in my opinion it's an excellent phone, it gets 6 hours screentime on average and it's pretty fast but then again i haven't had a lot of smartphones to compare the g4p to (htc one m7, galaxy note 4, iphone 5s, alcatel pop c7) so don't trust me too much on this, it's insanely cheap though, over here it cost me about 120 usd, three times cheaper than the g4 plus

>>

the g4 play will be just fine then, although the g5 might be a lot better, the sd430 is newer after all and it has an extra gb of ram over the g4p, not entirely necessary if you go for the custom rom and kernel route like me

if you want something "better" consider the g5 plus, it has a midrange snapdragon625 instead of the budget snapdragon430 and can go up to 4gb of ram, i recommend motorola for their price, nearly stock android and lots of updates for these g phones

here's the picture to prove the g4p can be rooted by the way, you can see the nougat toggles, the device's codename with official build and maintaner plus the root option doesn't come bundle with a SU app, you enable/disable it in developer options, way better than supersu in my opinion specially since disabling it hides the root and lets you use apps that rooted phones aren't allowed to (love live stage in my case, with root on it says illegal access denied, with it off i can play just fine)
>>
>>59313221
Thank you. Rooted is important as a few apps I do use do require it.

May check out the G5 for the next phone that dies as I have 2 S5s on my phone plan. This one isn't for me, but they need one fast as the power button stopped working entirely.

So if their phone dies or powers off entirely they are fucked for turning it back on. Now I may be able to fix the button on it as it feels like its just not connecting any longer, but I'ld have to power it off to do so and well if I can't fix then its fucked for coming on again.

CDMA really makes this a bitch so I really appreciate it.

The specs are great for the price (it was 165 dollars a few months ago) but it's extremely frail, if you put in on your pocket it's guaranted to bend at the end of the day since it's made of shitty plastic, so you have to buy a metal case for it, ruining the phone's aesthetics, the no SD slot and cloud shit seems offputting to me but 32 internal is serviceable for a backup phone.

They don't have the same camera sensors, Mi5 has Sony IMX298, Mi5s has IMX378 and the P2 has a IMX258. And you can't just compare sensors like that. LG G6 has the same sensor as the $100 Xiaomi Mi4c and yet it compared favourably to the Pixel XL, which is considered to have the best smartphone camera at the moment

Also generally Xiaomi has patented software that Elephone cannot use on their camera units. Even if they use the same sensor it doesn't mean they both can squeeze the performance at the same rate.

For example, Huawei is suing LeEco because some of their engineers quit their job and went to LeEco. Now LeEco couldn't maximize their dual rear camera phone, Coolpad Cool1 Dual, for the bokeh effect. They're stuck with software mode.

Some of the mods are just gimmicks (the camera and projector for example) but I like the idea of the speaker and battery mods. Current G4 owner here. The phone itself is pretty good, specs are more than sufficient. One minor con is that the plastic construction doesn't feel particularly "premium" or sturdy, but then again it isn't meant to be a premium phone.

The update support on the other hand is complete trash. One of the suppposed selling points of the G line is that the near-stock distro allows for quick updates. Since the acquisition, Lenovo has totally abandoned this. The promised Nougat update for the third-generation G has been cancelled, and the US G4 *still* hasn't gotten the Nougat update four months later (though it's rolling out in Europe as we speak so it should be any day now). It's unlikely to ever receive a 7.1 update, let alone O. You should expect the same from the G5. This may not be an issue if you're planning on using a custom ROM though (I'm planning to switch to lineage as soon as the stable release comes out).

It wasn't a terrible purchase, but if I did it over again I'd go for the Xiaomeme. Don't support a company that pulls shit like this.

Doesnt have to be amazing, but having a flash, as well as 5mp or more would be good, a zoom function would be nice but optional

32 or 64 is perfect, i've survived on the 4gb fine, the ability to use a microSD as internal memory would be nice, however a device with 64gb means i wouldnt care if i even had a microSD slot in the first place
>Location/Carrier
United state, I use straight talk which I believe runs on AT&T
>uses
Primary uses are texting and internet (typically via wifi but often i need 3g while using the gps or needing to search something while in a store) I do make calls, but they're usually quick
>price
I really only want to spend $120 or less and try to get it before april, which is why i was originally trying to buy a used opo via ebay. $150 being the maximum i can go for right now
>screen size
4.5 or larger.
>battery
2000mAh or larger, if the battery is removable that'd be a huge plus but not at all required
>durability
I dont drop my phone a ton, but it'd be nice if it held up to moderate abuse
>how soon do i need it
The sooner the better, as i'd rather get it before my straight talk time runs out, i'm willing to expand this a few more days to april 10th though, this is a big factor annoyingly enough.

Edit: Comparing it to the oneplus one, the OPo still seems superior even though its an older phone, but i can get the G4 for $99, which makes it more tempting. Disadvantage being I would have to rely on an ebay auction.

Yes, it's getting old + the non-ARM Intel SoC means it has combatability issues with a lot of apps. You're better off with one of the Moto G or Huawei/Honor phones, ZTE Blade V8 Pro is also great if your budget goes that far
>>

Yes for Xiaomi and Huawei, no for others.

Thanks. I'll look into those options.
>>
Xiaomi Mi5 vs honor 8?
mi5 is noticably noticably cheaper in price
>>
Someone can recommend me a good mobie phone with VR Support and sd card support?
>>
>>59333773
Pro's
>one of the best cameras in its price range
>good (but not great) screen
>good performance
>nice design and build quality
>not too big (5.2")
>4gb RAM
>microsd slot / dual sim
>USB-C, IR blaster, fingerprint reader
>headphone jack on the bottom

Con's
>non-stock android
>bad custom ROM support
>slippery without a case
>>
I'm finding a lot of used iphone 6s on craigslist for 150-200. Are these scams?
>>
Talk me out of buying the axon 7. It seems except for removable battery, it has everything I need, including custom ROM support.

Also considering the op3T but I've heard bad things about OnePlus support.
>>
>>59333886
For VR you'll want a 1440p screen. Google Daydream phones include
-Google Pixel / XL (though Pixel is only 1080p)
-Moto Z / Z Force
-Axon 7

Samsung GearVR phones
-S7 / S7 Edge
-Note 5
-S8 / S8+ once they launch
>>
>>59334022
yes
>>
Should I buy OnePlus 3T or wait for the new one to come out
>>
>>59334028
It's a great phone, the stock ROM has a few issues but a custom ROM will fix most of those. Compared to the OP3T you get stereo speakers, a MicroSD slot and a 1440p screen.

Great, I've even heard that you can do custom ROMs without flagging the warranty bit. But need to verify.
>>
>>59333862
Get the Mi5, Xiaomi has way better update support + there's customs ROMs available if you don't like MIUI
>>
any opinions on the Redmi pro?
I really want to buy it , but apparently it isn't the most popular xiaomeme.
>>
>>59334088
At least in the EU manufacturers cannot void the warranty from modifying the software (unlocking bootloader / rooting) unless they can prove whatever issue you're having was a caused by those modifications.

What does /g think which smartphone is on top of the food chain? For years it was latest iPhone, until edge displays came out, but since there is a lot of them they lost that special feel. Same goes for iPhone, it doesn't feel that special since everyone has it. Is the Mi Mix new king of the jungle? It's exotic, different and rare.
>>
>>59334095
it doesnt support LTE 800 Mhz?
>>
>>59334171
In Burgerland so not sure. Obviously, if I have a problem with their supposedly awful os and replace it I want to make sure I don't lose support for any hardware problems. Looks like I'll need to do some.... Reading. Ugh.

nokia
>>
>>59334201
No it doesn't. depends on the country whether that's an issue or not. In my country 800mhz LTE is used mostly in rural areas and often slower than 3.5g (H+)
>>
>>59334164
It's not popular because it's got a Mediatek SoC + the dual camera is kind of a gimmick

i have used ios and android both for years. i'm tired of both of them. i'm tired of touchscreens. phones are so modernized, i want something classic and low profile. but i really cannot find anything.

i want like the archlinux with riced i3 of smartphones.

the blackberry classic gets close to that, but it lacks apps and it's just not relevant anymore.

there really are no phones like that out there. i want to feel my keyboard, i dont want to mash on a screen.

my gut feeling tells me to get a dumbphone, but i just cannot sacrifice those things that smartphones still provide for me, despite them being bloated.

Running a 2013 Droid Maxx right now:
http://m.gsmarena.com/motorola_droid_maxx-5604.php

Important Specs (to me)
>3500mAh battery that lasts forever (two days with use)
>Basically stock Android
>Super AMOLED screen (fucking bright, can see easy in direct sunlight)

I need an upgrade because it's a locked phone and it's going wonky. Is there anything out there right now with at least those 3 core features?

Also looking for:
>MicroSD slot
>Good Camera

I really like the maxx, and I got it during the Google owned days. Would the new LG or Pixel phones hit those 3 core ideals? I love how fucking long my current phone lasts on one charge.

Take care of your fucking phones and you'll save a lot more money.

Jesus Christ, 4 screen replacements ($400 minimum), and two toilet dunks.

Take some basic steps and your shit won't get so fucked. Phone cases and keeping things out of the reach of children immediately spring to mind.

>>
One phone option i've been given recently is financing via google store. this would let me get a nicer more expensive phone for ~$40 a month.
would buying a Pixel and paying $40 a month over the next two years hold up vs buying a cheaper phone such as a used xperia Z3 or 4 for someone who isnt looking for top of the line but still decent make any sense
>>
>>59337197
Just get a OP3T
>>
>>59337283
the reason i'm even considering financing of any sort is because my budget keeps me under $200 in a single purchase. Financing is how poor people buy nice things after all
although often that ends up with tears if they go too far.

Or just save up. If you can afford to pay an extra 40$ a month you can save 40$ a month and not be a total chump and end up paying 1.5 tines the device.
>>
>>59337489
also a possibility, it'd take longer but it opens me up to other phone options. I'm just considering my options for getting a phone faster.

What's the issue with not being able to find certain games on the play store, and how do i get around this?
i wanna play heroes 3 on the go but i can't find it on the damn store. any workaround for this? (couldn't find the data for the latest patch to install maually)
>>
>>59337706
Just search the game on google, you'll get the play store link but it'll most likely say "not compatable with your phone". At that point your only option is trying to find the apk / game data online.
>>
ok someone has to have it here.
I have the iphone 7+. The phone imo its the best phone out but IOS is boring cant really do what android does. No phone comes close to the 7 plus but I want something similar and I heard the Pixel XL comes pretty close.
Can someone Confirm here?
