It's not "nothing".

It is revealing capability and how far reaching the scope of American intelligence agencies have infiltrated every facet of technology.

Probably because 90% of 4chan traffic is from shills (which are awaiting the email with talking points) and agents of misinformation from various states (which again are waiting until critical mass is reached on the topic until moving in to derail or do with it what their national interest deems best).

Stuxnet
USB Emulation Evaluation
BadUSB

BadUSB was a talk at blackhat about how USBs can be reprogrammed to become malware. The focus is on overwriting the original firmware of the USB device controller with customized firmware. The USB device controller acts as the interface between the host and the USB device. Customizing the firmware on the USB device controller offers numerous opportunities. By controlling the USB device controller, the user (person programming the firmware) can choose how he/she wants the device to interact with the host. Parts of the USB device can be hidden, for instance, if it is a mass storage device or emulating a mass storage device, parts of the storage can be hidden from the host. If done correctly, the host should not be able to tell what the device really is. You could spoof the firmware so that if the host asks for it, the host is given the firmware the device wants you to think it has on it, rather than the firmware that is actually on it.

It was also mention that badUSB can infect other USB devices and overwrite those devices' firmware as well. This part I am hazy on. I don't understand how exactly the original device can overwrite the USB device controller firmware of a separate USB device. This capability could greatly extend the scope of badUSB. It could be used as gap-jumping malware that infects the peripherial USB devices on a computer making it difficult to detect and get rid of.

Something worth looking into is utilizing the hidden partitions of a mass storage device combined with the USBRubberDucky capabilities to be able to both input and output to a host. Hiding various features from the host is very beneficial for the device, and keyboard emulation can be used for controlling a computer under the radar.

Comodo 6.X Gaping Hole of DOOM
Comodo, as you may know, is a colossal pain in the posterior. It literally catches everything until you tell it not to, including standard windows services (say what?!?).

...at least, that's what happens on Comodo 5.X. In 6.X, Comodo apparently decided that catching things that were part of windows was a Bad Thing(tm). Their "fix" was... kinda lame

Anything running as SYSTEM is automatically legit under 6.X. ANYTHING. Let that sink in. Got a kernal level exploit? Good, because you can drop the kitchen sink and the contents of your garage and as long as you continue to run as SYSTEM you are golden. Yeah.

Needless to say, Comodo 6.X doesn't catch nearly as much stuff. Comodo's user base, paranoid bastards that they are, has apparently caught wind of this and lots of them haven't upgraded to 6.X. Kind of a shame, cuz this is a hole you could drive a very large wheeled freight carrying vehicle through. However, if you're lucky enough to be going against a target running 6.X, have fun!

Internet Explorer Password Collection
Overview
This component was taken from C# malware and steals passwords 'saved' by Internet Explorer. The technique is very simple and only requires registry read access to run successfully.

Source Code
The C# malware sample (along with source code) was provided by Lincoln Labs. The original source contained a bug in the crypto setup that was fixed by UMBRAGE. Below is the source code with comments added by UMBRAGE to aid in understanding the technique, which should make it easy to port to other langauges.

intelligence gathering. they do things under programs that aren't officially known or acknowledged, so they can get away with a lot of illegal shit.

their SAG/SOG groups are the 'spearpoint' so to speak, doing everything from espionage, direct action, CT, assassinations, coups, etc. these people writing the code assist in spying basically.

e.g., a field agent might load one of these programs on a USB stick and put it in a TV somewhere to do the whole "Fake Off" shit.

In the need to develop a capacity to know what potential enemies are doing, the United States government has perfected a technological capability that enables us to monitor the messages that go through the air. (...) Now, that is necessary and important to the United States as we look abroad at enemies or potential enemies. We must know, at the same time, that capability at any time could be turned around on the American people, and no American would have any privacy left such is the capability to monitor everything—telephone conversations, telegrams, it doesn't matter. There would be no place to hide.

If this government ever became a tyranny, if a dictator ever took charge in this country, the technological capacity that the intelligence community has given the government could enable it to impose total tyranny, and there would be no way to fight back because the most careful effort to combine together in resistance to the government, no matter how privately it was done, is within the reach of the government to know. Such is the capability of this technology.

I don't want to see this country ever go across the bridge. I know the capacity that is there to make tyranny total in America, and we must see to it that this agency and all agencies that possess this technology operate within the law and under proper supervision so that we never cross over that abyss. That is the abyss from which there is no return.

biggest surprises for me so far were: VLC, notepad++, ifran view, antiviruses: Bitdefender Resource Defeat, Comodo 6.X Gaping Hole of DOOM, Comodo Recycle Bin Defeat, AVG Fake Installer Trick, F-Secure Entropy Defeat, Avira Entropy Defeat,

all version of Windows, Android, iOS, OSX, Microsoft office... but thats no news

also Linux exploits, Free BSD exploits were news for me

But note that those exploits are still very limited, most of them dont work remotely and CIA needs to replace your exe files or trick you so you install them thinking you are installing legit software.

I said none of it's new news. We've known that these tools exist, therefore the revelation itself is not news.

no
it's an exe
it follows a predictable image loading sequence defined by the windows kernel
it's not truecrypts job to detect mangled exes
it's your job to do that - ie don't run shit that's on a usb stick

This is actually a devision that only sideloads .dll's for Windows operations.

I guess because there exists a portable version of TrueCrypt they use that just as a base - could have been any other portable.

>But "lock her up" was literally a campaign slogan.

Make America Great Again was the official campaign slogan. Lock her up was more of a crowd generated, unofficial slogan.

>This is actually a devision that only sideloads .dll's for Windows operations.

I said that wrong, OSB focuses on Windows only it seems from the docs. That is what I wanted to say.

just try playing lots of corrupted media files... you'll see VLC crashing a lot
>>
>>59289372

It'll be a Fatima. I don't understand why they piggyback on shit like VLC though. Seems to make a lot more sense to just run a process in the background.

there are some things about bypassing AVs and stuff, nothing out of the norm for malware writers or anyone that knows a bit about the topic, but still something

On which OS? I have never had VLC crash on me.

It was still chanted by Trump several times.

Does anyone know what they use to actually install the malware? What exploits and vectors they use?

Still wasn't the official campaign slogan that you said it was.

I didn't use the word official you shill. I said it was A campaign slogan. Unofficial or official doesn't matter.
>>
>>59289462
all OSes
seriously, just run it through a fuzzer (AFL works), you'll see *lots* of crashes
I've had friends report bugs to the VLC devs, they mostly don't care
>>
>>59289531
Trump promised it. It's dumb af nonetheless.
>>
>>59289549
>Unofficial or official doesn't matter.

But it does matter you shit because it wasn't made exclusively by Trump or his team as THE campaign slogan. Stop equivocating.

It's part of early stage cyberwar and it's fine for Americans. It can easily be abused for personal gain, but that's the price to be paid. You think NSA hackers would never take their work home and crush some servers/routers for their own gain?

It just reports capabilities and until they release the exploits/code then it isn't really that bad. I'll wait to see usage reports from reliable sources and then decide how bad it is.

Note: the CIA publicly announced a huge cyber offensive against Russia right around the time the Russia election interference was corroborated. Think this is related?

If you don't think everyone is doing this then you have no clue what an intelligence agency is. Probably why you don't work for an intelligence agency (I'm calling you stupid).
>>
>>59289488
Well it appears to be a very large range of vectors. From routers to phones to laptops, cars. All OS's - mostly consumer software. I have not yet seen any industrial software being mentioned.

For the local exploits they use a series of privilege escalations after hooking a local process and drop the load that way.

It appears that sometimes agents were used to physically collect data from closed network using infected USB sticks that would scan the network for certain filetypes, collect and encrypt.

They have also developed 'trashers' to deliberately trash all files (including all media files) on systems.

Regarding the large scale surveillance they have developed a metasploit-like framework to construct tools out of zero-days they have either purchased from security researchers or backdoors they have found themselves.

For remote exploits via the web they break out of the browser sandbox and use privilege escalations to download their malware to the machine and set up a way to persist.
