What will it take for you to realize that you can just run whatever host OS you want and run everything else as a virtual machine? Are you that obsesses with GNU/Linux that you need to control what other people use? I don't give a shit about what everyone else uses. I use my computer as a tool and that is not OS-dependant.

Nigga you full a shit.
VT-x comes with a 5% penalty to bare metal in absolute worst case scenario.
Writeback caching will give you better disk speed than native and you can do some cool tuning and it keeps everything sandboxed.

It is entirely indistinguishable from a real machine if someone sat you in front of a monitor and had you play some vidya.

how do you get a virtual machine to run well ? I have a ubuntu vm set up for porn and it barely can do that. it will randomly decide to not draw frames and i have to drag shit across the screen for pixels to update. watching videos there is some insane playback latency and it looks like a slideshow rather than a video. can't imagine trying to game.
>>
I went from Windows servers to mostly Linux servers.
I will probably never switch to Linux simply because ssh exists.
Why open a terminal to my local machine to work when I can open up one to a 32 core machine that runs 24/7, or a remote server in Kansas on a dedicated 1gbps line.

vmware & virtualbox emulates a gpu like shit.
It then pushes frames over a virtual network to your host.
Slow as hell.

If you install Linux on your host with KVM & Virt-manager you can add QXL drivers to your VMs which is an emulated driver intended for speed.
Mouse feels bare metal and it can run full 4K 2D video with no issues.

If you want 3D then you have to have VT-d and isolate a physical GPU to give to your VM and then use it as you would a real machine with GPU passthrough.

Windows makes very poor disk calls on spinning rust.
Stacked with synchronous non CoW I/O on NTFS it's absolute garbage.
I'm not talking about shitty IDE or SATA emulation.
VirtIO gets you damn near metal.

Handing over your hosts memory caching pages in addition to the HDD cache it runs very nicely whereas Windows cannot trust itself to writeback cache to disks without CoW.

The biggest fucking shame of all of this is that Windows 10 is actually a super stable, efficient, and low footmark OS.

PROVIDED YOU ACTUALLY PAY AN ARM AND A LEG AND GET THE VERSION WHERE YOU CAN DISABLE TELEMETRY AND EVERY OTHER FORM OF BULLSHIT.

Hell, even fucking Edge is a really good browser, provided you install 3rd party addons like ublock origin and a few things that disconnect tracking. It has a really fucking good sandboxing feature and because its so deeply embedded in win10 it runs amazingly well and efficient and renders smooth like a champ.

It's such a fucking shame they are turbokikes and ruin everything.

Ever tried performing dedup on a single RAID5?
Hours of lockups.

This is really the way, get a good solid Linux going and then run your gaymes in a VM, or in Wine because that works great with 99.99% of software now.

Then you never have to dick around with your fucking shit. Yes Linux might take a bit of autism to get going but it's worth it. Debian, without systemd, is my choice of course.

I believe, OP, that what you meant to ask was:

> What will it take to make you install Windows?

And the answer is: Nothing. Nothi8ng can ever make me return to that fucking abomination.

I keep legacy VMs of WinXP 32-bit and Win7 Ult 64-bit to support obsolete software and file formats. Last time I fired one of those up was just after the New Year, so probably about 6 times per year, or less now.

there are a few things you have to disable like keychain and anything involving an apple id, but overall its less tweaking than you need in windows while being much more consistent and usable (in terms of UI) than anything linux has to offer, aside from perhaps android and chromeos

Having a system that requires Windows 10 for for proper feature support. At that point I'll dual boot Windows 10 and Gentoo.

The main aspect in the way is that I don't really understand boot loaders... at all, and have to do some research on GRUB2 etc. I already have something that works. I use MSYS2 for anything that Windows makes a pain in the ass (and prefer gcc for development anyway). Rather not fuck it all up. I hate doing and redoing.

When I saw the abomination that is Windows 10 two years ago, I decided to make the switch so it's less painful on the longrun. I should have made it sooner, I despise Windows with a passion now. Windows 7 was fine I guess, but you faggots needs to start considering leaving it for good. It's already losing support and it's 3 years ahead of the supposed official date.

I think it's hilarious because people will simply submit and use it. It will become normalized though will readily be seen as second rate, which is dangerous for Microsoft. Not that they have any meaningful competition. Hearing the garbage that pours from the typical apologists' mouths is utterly nauseating bordering on maddening.

Era after era, the few people who see can never spur the masses into action until it is far too late. We live in a very sick world. Every word you hear stems from an intellectually dishonest and morally bankrupt, fantasy.

When there's a good video player on it on par with MPC-HC and madVR, as well as a good image viewer, I will.

I realized while writing this though that a lot of my problems with Linux could be solved just by having a Win7 VM for things that would just be too much of a pain to get working otherwise, like visual novels and such. Honestly the only reason I haven't installed Linux is because I don't have any empty hard drives and I still don't know which one I would want to use over others since I wouldn't be able to install gentoo or arch, nor would I really be incentivized to considering if I finally did get it all working it would break a week later.
>>
>>59280465
I'm reluctant to even install Windows 10 at all. I suppose I could use vapoursynth in place of avisynth(+), though I couldn't use yatta. UE4 development, photoshop, 3dsmax / zbrush need Windows.

It always comes down to software. I'm disgusted with the world and tired of always feeling trapped. I used to be slave only to the most natural of natural laws. No longer. Stuck using spyware-laden inefficient trash with UX designed by a moron. I'm some know-nothin' that dabbles in philosophy, molecular biology, and neuroscience, and even I can pick out dozens of reasons their entire user interface is trash. Absolute gutter trash. Everywhere. As far as the eye can see. If the eye is seeing, it is seeing trash. There shall only be trash.

>Full Driver Support without compiling them yourself?
Don't post (parrot) about things you don't really know about, anon. Most drivers are either kernel modules or come as binary blobs, which are precompiled.

>Windows 10 like 6 second boot times?
This is because your computer isn't booting, it's coming out of hibernation. All it has to do is pull all the pages back into memory, of course it's fast. Though I don't really remember, maybe all it does is go into sleep mode.

>I just want shit to work natively and out of the box.
Stop choosing distros that don't do that intentionally. Use Mint, or Debian. Not Gentoo or Arch. Etc. Though I do agree with you, the full rounded deal is what's holding back Linux adoption every bit as much as popular (large corporately developed) software support. It's a catch 22. Always.
>>
>>59276150
This literally never happened to me.

Windows 10 never showed me any ads.

Windows 10 never suddenly forced me to restart computer. It does updates when I decide it's time to close it as I go to bed.

Windows 10 never caused me any bsods or any other issues.

Windows 10 actually boosted my performance on my old shitty 3570k which reduced bottleneck in many CPU hungry games.

I dunno if it's the cause of not living in NSA land so maybe all those "features" are disabled to me while burgers are getting fucked or is it a simple blatant falseflag.

I dunno, I dual boot, and it still boots quick. And I doubt it's hibernation; that's usually slower than a cold boot.
