Can we get a thread to discuss ryzen for servers, scientific computing and high performance computing?
I guess ill start one then. I am quite exited to be able to see ryzen or zen server chips for building a cfd build at a fraction of the cost.

Wondering which vendor will make decently cheap dual-socket motherboard. Sad it won't be anything from supermicro.
It's gonna be a monster in the server space. Hardware accelerated encryption and hashing and cores/threads for VMs.

What is wrong with supermicro desu? I am actually curious as pudget system do builds with its motherboards

VM is something i can see working very good with

I'm really curious what the pricing structure of the high end Opterons will be. Intel is selling 24 core chips for $9000 right now, and I can only imagine that they'd be happy to increase prices with their upcoming Skylake Xeons.
If the Snowy Owl chips are priced against Xeon-D then I could see myself getting one.

Probably not going to see any dual socket boards for consumer chips. There isn't enough demand for them.

If ryzen, which is aimed at consumers, is showing pro-grade features, i will not be dissapointed with the enterprise chips.
All in name of competition... recently i was thinking to build a dual cpu workstation, but i think i'll wait for now. AMD has really given a chance to people in academia, specially for personal computing

Nothing, it's great brand, but I think they just made some deal with Intel long time ago, therefor I didn't see any amd stuff being build by them, which is sad part.

Exactly why I would love to see some DP motherboard for not too much from supermicro or alike.

Verify
When will they announce the opterons?

If Ryzen is this great at server/workstation applications, what's gonna happen with their actual workstation line when it gets the Zen architecture?

Release is Q2, so I imagine they'll release details on them before too long.
