About 13.
I got a SoundBlaster knock-off. 16-bit ISA.
Did not know how you had to configure IRQ jumpres. It defaulted to IRQ 7, as did the printer on LPT1.
So whenever my parents wanted to print something, I removed the sound card from the PC. A year later or so, I realized you could set a jumper to set the sound card to IRQ5.
Then I got an extra Megabyte of RAM, upgrade from 4 MB to 5 MB.
(4x 1 MB + 4x 256 KB).

13 or14. It was just ram though.
12 or so. Decided the CPU fan was too annoying so I unplugged it. Doesn't really count as upgrading, does it?
13 or 14 can't remember precisely, I upgraded ram and added a second hdd to a shitty pre-built my dad got me when I asked him for a pc. Still use the 60gb hdd to store porn and music, now that I'm thinking about it, I should retire the fucker before it dies.
12. Had to install a Firewire PCIE card for importing my old portable camcorder that used minivhs
7. Fitted a 16k Rampak to a Sinclair ZX81 to play 3D Monster Maze.
13 or 14 but it was just adding an extra HDD
I've never done much more than that to upgrade my own machines, actually. I've built two machines and replaced two broken GPU:s and added a big bunch of HDD:s. I've never been much into gaming or anything so I can use the same hardware - usually - until it breaks down or is so damn old that it makes sense to just buy a whole new PC.

I think... 11 or something I upgraded the memory?
Then I think at 13 or 14 I made my first computer. It had a Thunderbird 1.33; SoundBlaster card that came with Deus Ex, UT, and some other games; Radeon 9600 I think..;a really ugly clear plastic aqua and white case; chinkshit PSU that later fried;786mb of ram I think.

11-12. I feel I've gotten much stupider over time. I actually used to enjoy general hax0ring, now I just spend my internet time talking to assholes and inciting idiots.
maybe around 8
i don't really remember much that long ago
Probably 14. My computer didn't have a sound card. Ordered a sb16 isa card from some computer shopper magazine vendor. Terrified but got it installed.

4 I replaced the motherboard, and installed water cooling.
