Neons or LED's for cyberpunk room? Also, what are must have items to make room more cyberpunk?

LEDs, they are cheaper and power consumption is lower.
I've got a GNUsocial instance running for the cyberpunk culture if you'd like to check out our side of the fediverse. soykaf.com is dead so I figure it might be something you guys would be interested in.

I've kept up with updates and bug fixes so please quip @gitgud if you encounter any issues.
The Discord is likely to be replaced with a Mumble server or Riot for good measure eventually, but right now our community is kind've small.

Cyberpunk is terminated, stop pushing the dead theme.

Cyberpunk is now, it just looks different. Don't be a hipster.

I'll give the usual free bump with the reminder that this is the wrong board for anything but consumerism
>>59250857
a real hobby, rather than cosplaying as a hacker
>>59250857
led strips you've modded to run off solar panels taking up all of your bottom window, that's what I did

So you have stoked my autism.
Neon/Argon is an amazing light source. It delivers a distinct and piercing light that is timeless. The bad thing about using Neon/Argon is it is incredibly hard to make on your own. Just for the basics to start is about $4K, and that doesn't include a bombarding transformer. They're not super expensive, but you really can't find commercial ones available, so you would have to make your own. Also, you would need a special hookup inside your home because most residential areas don't have the proper electrical hookups.
Now, on to LEDs. LEDs don't give off the same piercing light as Neon/Argon, but they offer brighter light for less energy, less money, more control, and are way easier to work with.
The problem that I have always had with LEDs is that they're individual points instead of a homogeneous piece of light. Well, that is easily solved with 3D printing! Using natural PLA you can make a bezel to diffuse the light to appear as one homogeneous piece of light. Knowing this you can make something closer to neon that can be personalized and even animated. Right now I'm working on an arcade sign to hash out some of the details.

I just want comfy room
>>59251982
I wish i had money for a solar panel
>>59252281
>they're individual points instead of a homogeneous piece of light
I guess this wont matter since im putting them above windows on a wooden panel that holds window blinders. Im probably go with LED's, but i still have my love for neons.
>>59251929
Actually I'm pretty sure everyone here is anti-consumerism.
>>59252388
Man, you don't buy solar panels, you steal/salvage them from e-waste. Buying things is for unresourceful people.
>>59252281
Prototype of the light bar. Unfortunately I didn't get the height right in the print, so sometimes you can still see the LEDs underneath. I've since fixed that. Also these need to be post processed by sanding.
>>59252389
yeah, maybe the 15 people that are posting in this thread
Have a look at the rest of the board
>>59252388
If you're going to be putting them where they're not directly seen then they work great for accent lighting.
>>59252389
>anti-consumerism
Am I against buying things? Absolutely not. Sometimes it's easier and more efficient just to buy something.
Am I against buying things simply because you want it at that moment or a commercial influenced you to? Absolutely. I think American society is hopelessly lost in consumerism. Buying garbage that they can't afford and don't need just to have the latest gadget.
To reiterate, buying things is ok so long as you have done your research and have a need for it or really want it and will actually use it.
>>59250593
>implying neo-/g/ is ready for any cyber.
>>59252496
Solar panels are barely even catching on in here so i doubt anyone would throw them away.
>>59252523
Yeah accent lights and to have a small source of light in the night.
>>59252620
may as well keep the generals going to attempt to coerce them, 'ey
Whats the most cyberpunk in the city at the moment? Hong Kong?
>>59256235
Aesthetic wise:
Kow Lun city (when it existed). Now would be Hong Kong or any major East Asian city.
Spirit wise:
Kow Lun city (when it existed). Now it is anywhere in the world. Cyber attacks to and from anywhere in the world on even a cell phone. We live in the cyber punk dystopian future, but it only seems like it exists in East Asia because of the aesthetics. You can do the same cyber stuff in rural Oklahoma than you can in Hong Kong.

You will not post any of the following outside of /b/: Trolls, flames, racism, off-topic replies, uncalled for catchphrases, macro image replies, indecipherable text (example: "lol u tk him 2da bar|?"), anthropomorphic ("furry") or grotesque ("guro") images, post number GETs ("dubs"), or loli/shota pornography.
>>59250593
Why do we use tox, instead of Ring or Riot?
Also tox was compromised (not by the devs per se, but by those tree letter agencies infiltrating)

For the tech? Tsukuba.

Brain research has uncovered much recently and a Nobel Prize in medicine was awarded for understanding more how the brain navigates.
Gene technology has simply exploded recently with CRISPS/Cas9
And the "Where is my jet pack!?" is getting a response, pic. related.
I think we are doing pretty well.

Why do you say that? My professor got his degree from Tsukuba uni, and that's about all I know about it.
