well first of all macOS is superior

its the best OS for comfy use and it keeps out all these retarded gaymers but then again you could play a lot of games just fine. Windows is still better for stupid gaming though.

If you absolutely need windows for specific gaming purposes its the only legitimate reason. Other than that use macOS.

You aren't, though. That's why there is no reason to answer you. You're here to shitpost with smug anime faces and greentext everything without providing a real argument. You proved this in your OP by saying (paraphrased) "GNU/Linux users are poor that's why they don't use Windows™"
>>
>>59249577
Q: Is it ever correct to have a space before a question or exclamation mark?

A: In English, it is always an error. There should be no space between a sentence and its ending punctuation, whether that's a period, a question mark, or an exclamation mark. There should also be no space before a colon, semicolon, or comma. The only ending punctuation mark that sometimes needs to be preceded by a space is a dash.
>>

we talk about games because thats the only thing windows is good for

You didn't ask a question; you made an unfalsifiable claim. Even if 100 people responded to your post with time-stamped images of their 6 figure bank statements on a GNU/Linux distribution, it would still be unable to support or oppose your claim because anecdotal evidence is not evidence.
>>
>>59249593
The primary answer is customization, but that isn't an advantage per se. The only objective advantages are that it is faster and not a botnet.
>>
>>59249622
Not these days but I use Linux because it's modular, if I don't like a way a specific library works I can replace it with a different yet compatible one. And it will seamlessly integrate into the system.

This holds true for everything in Linux. Specific kernel so bloated it looks like the NT one? Change it. Desktop environment is ugly? Change it. Display server is 33 years old? Change it.

That and if I download say, a library to integrate sftp connections into my file browser without it looking out of place.

I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you’re referring to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I’ve recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.
Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU which is widely used today is often called “Linux”, and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project. There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use.
Linux is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the machine’s resources to the other programs that you run. The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system is basically GNU with Linux added, or GNU/Linux. All the so-called “Linux” distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux.
>>

less of a cluttered mess than win 10. doesn't spy on you or constantly nag.
>>
>>59249876
What is a "tripcode nigger"?
>>
>>59249180
The real question is why would you use windows? Linux is free, more stable (no crash if you don't fuck up your system willingly and no forced restart), gives you more privacy (you're information isn't sold to companies or not as blatantly at least). Linux is also faster, I have a new computer and it boots at least 5 times faster on linux. It also uses less memory. Windows 10 was using four gig, while Linux with a text editor, a browser and a pdf reader takes about 1.5 gig of memory at most.

Sure, windows can use excel, but yeah, if you have to use excel, thats your problem.
>>
>>59252112
I have noticed boot times were pretty damned fast compared to windows at least on my current distro. And having recently discovering the magic of automated window tiling such as i3 I can't go back.

Rsync is quite nice as well once you get it running backing up your system regularly without using up much space by linking to identical files instead of copying them.

The biggest nuisance with windows 10 is the forced updates, even if you can postpone them you have no control along with all the snooping going on close to home on your local space.

The way packages are being handled on linux though more compact and efficient, leaves room for a lot of potential headaches resolving dependencies after major updates or having different programs that use different versions of the same library. On windows it was more bloated by duplicating data for each program a lot more, however you could easily install programs on other hard disks with minimal hassle which is quite important if you are say using an SSD with low capacity.

I do miss being able to plug in almost anything under the sun and having it work out of the box on windows except for some older wireless cards I've had. With linux I have experienced a lot of heartache especially with wireless modules. On some systems like my laptop it was a breeze and everything just werks but on my desktop it has been a nightmare, even my keyboard wouldn't work with the latest stable kernel yet works well on my laptop with an older version of ubuntu 14.04LTS.

Only attractive part about windows going for it at the moment as much as it might repulse everyone and their unborn child in this thread, is that a lot of video games are supported by it. But even that is slowly becoming a relic of the past with WINE, increasing developer support, and VM with GPU passthrough and win7 guest if there is no alternative. The process for setting it up seems quite fiddly at the moment several have demonstrated it working quite well.

Windows user here

Primary reason people use Linux on desktop is for customaization and to control any possible spying from big brother. There is no other use for it except for personal preference, such as the terminal.

Linux is VERY usrful for servers. Cheap, less resource-intensive, SSH is super easy, and very versatile since it can be used for a wide range of things.
>>
The main reason to use Linux is for moral reasons, like not supporting Microsoft. Also, if your needs are extremely basic, like you only use Firefox and a lot of your applications are web based.

Otherwise, you'd be better off using Windows, especially if you rather game on PC. Or edit video with certain software.
>>
I use Windows for games and some proprietary software that I need for things, but using the OS in general makes me want to kill myself; thus, I boot to Linux for general use when I'm not doing a particular task that requires Windows.

Because you Linux people treat Linux more like a fucking religion and pointing out fault in your operating system is basically heresy to you. Since you guys will never listen to criticism and argue too much about crap like if systemd is better, there will never be a year of desktop Linux. Even if all of the necessary stuff to compete with Windows and Mac are out there, you wouldn't even have the political power in the Linux community to get all the distros to adopt the same software and standards.

I'm just saying: I don't care why you use Linux because I've voiced my findings and what is needed to advance it's market share before, and in return the average Linux community is always a bunch of assholes. It's frustrating Linux could easily compete with Windows and OSx with a few policy changes, but everyone has their heads so far up their ass in that community that the most basic of changes won't happen. I'll just wait for ReactOS to become stable, and then I'll enjoy watching the almost all the Linux distros fall into disrepair as people stop maintaining them.
