Do you actually have to open it up like that?
>>
>>59248238
yes
>>
>>59248238
Well not like that because you don't want to bend the cover but the guy in the picture was lazy and didn't take of all the screws.
Remember to also wear hdgloves when doing that since you don't want to actually hurt the data.

I have a 500GB SSD anon.
>>
OK. I'll order a stethoscope tomorrow when Amazon is open again.
>>
>>59248201

You don't have to because you store your data on RAID and have redundant backups. If a disk fails you just plug in a spare and order a new HDD.

Trying to predict HDD failure is utterly stupid. It can fail any time and you should be ready. Replacing HDDs before they fail is just a waste of hardware.
>>
memes aside if I want to have a backup that I don't want to access often, but want to last a long time (say >10 years) what kind of storage device is the best?

is there a difference in durability between 2.5 and 3.5 external HDDs? Should I just burn my backup on 100 dvds?

pls anon
>>
>>59248366
I'd like to nitpick that sometimes drive performance becomes abysmal before failure and you'd like to replace it.
>>
>>59248384
>Should I just burn my backup on 100 dvds?
Hell no, CDs and DVDs are clearly not a sane way of storing data, it deteriorates way too quickly.

Also, as regards HDDs, I have no idea if there is any difference between 2.5 and 3.5 HDDs, my guess is there’s just the size that changes

SSDs are nice because they are fast but HDDs are fine for most purposes too.
>>
>>59248201
i planned to use SSD once my 12 years old 2x400GB 7200rpm RAID-0 gave SMART warning

It's a Seagate drive that hasn't died yet.
I don't need to check it's health, it will live forever.

Don't forget your weekly defrag
>>
>>59248638

You're a stupid cunt aren't you? Boot drive and OS drive are the same thing. Doesn't mean I BOOT all the time, retard. SSDs, NAND chips, are objecivley more reliable than ultra delicate platters with disks spinning at 7200 RPM with zero tolerance for mechanical changes. If you don't get this, you're an idiot.
>>
>>59248387
>He still uses HDDs for OS drives
Enjoy your shitty performance anon. My SSD is really fast, and has made a significant improvement to productivity. Maybe you're just a poorfag. Poor you.
>>
>>59248800
I can't afford 2x 4TB SSDs for my NAS.
>>
>>59248907
Did I imply you needed an SSD for your NAS anon?
>>
>>59248922
Because literally everyone already uses SSDs for the OS drive including the people who post "he fell for the SSD meme"? So the only thing left to fall for the SSD meme is to use it for everything and in every SSD meme thread you will see dozens of people saying they replaced their HDDs with 1TB+ SSDs.
>>
>>59248201
Script does it for me. If there is any problem I'm being emailed about this.
Retard. Leave my /g/ oyu incompetent cuck
