Got a i3 2100 bottlenecking my 280x and would like to upgrade it to ivy bridge. I can get either a 3570 or a 3770 for around the same price (~150 €).
Is it worth going for the i7 for future proofing? I'm a bit wary of trusting devs to get advantage of HT in the near future tho.
Also, my mobo has a Z68 so OC is not out of the question, but if I go for the 3750(k) I'd need to buy a cooler (H 212 evo for 30 €). Worth it over the 3770? Not considering 3770k cos it's too expensive.
I'm going to do some light gaming (but mostly racing sims that are somewhat cpu intensive) and general purpose tasks, but with this upgrade I intend to keep using this build till the mobo fucking dies, and that could be 2022 thereabouts, and the i7 might get the upperhand then.
What do you recommend familia?

Nice meme. "Devs" don't have to "take advantage" of Hyperthreading. It's just there, doing what it does. And in newer games that like more threads, that's provide a large performance increase. Why the FUCK would you even consider an i5 if the i7 is the same price?

I had the same cpu, found a 3550 for $70 ad set it to max turbo with a old 212. Locked ivy can be set 4 bins above stock turbo and bclk overclocked. Prob use this until it dies

I just went from a 3570k to a 7600k. The 3570k was oc'd to 4.3 gh, and it was slightly faster booting than the 7600 is at the stock clock of 3.8gh. Oc'd 3570k is still a beast, go for it. You might get a better chip than mine, many people could get 4.5gh on air.

Do you have shit on your eyes or somehting? I made this thread to get advice to UPGRADE TO IVY BRIDGE. When some people mentioned Ryzen I replied that it was not my intention. Any advice that helps me choose between the i5 and the i7 is appreciated.
