>>
MATE because I miss Gnome 2.
>>
>>59241878
I dont use GNOME because I dont have a tablet.
I generally dont use a DE but if I would, then probably xfce
>>
KDE

How do you people live without Dolphin is beyond me...
>>
XFCE:

>lightweight
>customizable
>infinite possibilities
>only as bloated as you want it to be

why would anyone use any other DE?
>>
>>59242143
Nemo is quite good. But yeah, dolphin is God-tier.

Unity just works well. Gnome is unusual, KDE is ugly.

Looks like ass out of the box and it being lightweight doesn't matter as long as you're using a PC that's from this decade

Unity on laptop and KDE on desktop.

Lxde, because I don't care about aesthetics, so may as well be lightweight.

I'm pretty pleased with the bunsenlabs defaults by and large

I just bring over the rc.xml and conky configs that I've been using forever, pick a nice, unbusy wallpaper and I'm done.

I try spectrwm/awesome, every tilling windows manager have the same features, just pick one.

Yes the learn curve, is a pain in the ass, but when you mastered, you feel strange in a GNOME/KDE environment.

What if GNOME is what I want it to look like?
>>
>>59242438
No. Emacs is not a text editor.

Its a lisp environment with extensions and an interface that is well suited for editing text. Its also a complete host environment for applications written in its own dialect of lisp.

Emacs is essentially an operating system. A modern day lisp machine, so to speak. Its like living in a REPL. All the built in functionality and variables are well documented, its incredibly satisfying to hack at, and is infinitely extensible with a good standard library to boot.

EXWM is an X11 window manager that embeds X11 windows into its buffer management system. All the stuff that usually gets read out of an i3/whateverwm dotfile can be controlled using a complete programming language. Its a good feeling and ive used it to make a keybinding system that works really well for me. Multitasking with it is a breeze.

Combing that with evil mode makes for an incredibly comfortable programming environment. Though, if im just shitposting or watching videos and shit, I sometimes use KDE instead.

>>59242441
it works. once you have a good grasp at elisp, its easy to sand down the rough edges and bloat spacemacs adds while taking advantage of what it gives you. Tons of sane keybindings, including ones that change dynamically per major mode with built in macros that are easy to extend it with. Sure you can do it in vanilla, but its tedious and I got really sick of it.
>>
>>59241878
It's gnome. Gnome shell is the best DE
>>
>>59242592
then you install gnome. but saying that something highly and easily customizable looks bad out of the box is a bad point

Coming from a Mac, I guess dealing with Gnome was okay, as a first step in using LiGNUx on my mbp. But using Gnome still feels a lot like wearing a pair of wet shorts with just a little bit of sand left after going to the beach. There was just always something bothering me, mo matter how hard I tried to brush the sand away.

I recently switched to KDE, and I have never felt as comfy using a computer. This is smoother and comfier than OSX ever was, I am in love.

I run xfce and cinnamon on my laptop, I used gnome for a little bit but it was ass to actually try and do work with. Slow, ugly, and pointless since I wasn't using it with a touchscreen.

its really not that bad, honestly. Though I appreciate that LXDE has a settings suite that lets me set my gtk theme, font settings, and other little shit like that. It doesnt add any overhead worth worrying about, and i disable the pcmanfm and lxpanel shit.
>>
>>59244470
i dont. I have a key that switches to my browser and jumps to the post, so sadly i cant compose from emacs but at least I can browse from it.

Maybe i could get legacy captcha to work if I really hacked at it but i dont care that much.
