So I decided to drop out of life and become a novelist hermit and live off my savings. I am also living life minimally, just a one bedroom apartment with bare essential furnishings.

I have a raspberry PI 3 with a 8GB SD card. I plan to only have network connectivity when I install the programs I need at the start.

Tell me what you think of what I plan to install on my Pi:

OS: FreeBSD
Main Editor: vim
Document converter: pandoc
File manager: noice/ranger
Spell check: aspell
>>
Second post:

Do you recommend any vim plugins for writing and brainstorming ideas?

I'd like to work in VIM as much as possible as to be as distraction free as possible

ReStructuredText is probably a good choice

I'm not a novelist but I do write technical documentation. ReST is the perfect compromise between flexibility, readability and ease of use.

I assume you already chose a markup language since you mention pandoc?

For novel writing I plan to stick to plain text as much as possible.

I do plan to use Markdown when I need to export to a published format.

What makes ReST better than Markdown?

Get an old Thinkpad. Cheap, hardy, reliable, good keyboards.

You´ll also need a text program. I like Scrivener.

Also remember to set up some sort of automated backup system. There´s nothing more frustrating than losing a bunch of pages.

wait for GPD pocket, 7 inch laptop would be great for writing
>>
Get a Chromebook

Scrivener is nice but I need it to run on Linux

For now I will use Vim

I'm aware that Imgur.com will stop allowing adult images since 15th of May. I'm taking actions to backup as much data as possible.
