They're decent laptops. Mine gets about 7 hours of battery life with medium brightness just browsing the web, watching a couple YouTube videos, and using a text editor. It's a 2nd Gen running Debian Cinnamon.

macbook hardware is optimized heavily for its software. it's why hackintoshs are so specific about hardware components. parts of their OS don't work unless u have the parts.

hackintoshes are actually pretty lenient in terms of desktops. Only real limitations are having an Intel CPU, most people often recommend Gigabyte motherboards but most any motherboard will work. Some AMD and nvidia cards will have bugs but you would be surprised on what you can get away with in OSX
