So I was looking to buy a new pc, but then read that my old i7 860 can be overclocked up to 4.0ghz and i got a boner for building a system with it.
My question is, how fast a ram must i get? My motherboard takes up to 2133mhz, my current ram is 1333mhz. I read that sometimes you have to drop the speed to get a steady oc, but most people talked about 1600mhz.
So does the speed matter for a stable oc?

Don't worry about RAM frequency
first things first, do you have an aftermarket fan?

ill buy Noctua NH-D15S
this ram ill buy will be useless because it will be ddr3, so i wanna know if spending more on a 2133mhz one is worth it and if 1333mhz can OC
Also since im asking about ram, are 16gb a meme? Should i buy 8gb or will it bottleneck shit like games?

>will it bottleneck shit like games?
depends on the game, but things like video editing needs at least 16gb to run smoothly

i don't video edit so don't really care. all the 8gb vs 16gb benchmark videos i see don't even realize what difference single vs dual channel has, and usually they use 8gb single vs 16gb dual and get 3-4 fps difference
generally don't wanna throw money away on a ram i wont be able to use on a new mb
