Imagine if the metal was 20 cents, and the silicone was 10 cents.
Bit of an outlandish price, but still the processor would be 2 times faster!!!
Now imagine if it were a whole dollar or something insane like that, or even more! The sky's the limit, friendo

Guys, idk if this is the right place to post this but.
1)For what ive seen ryzen beats all the lga 2011 cpus out there. lga 2011 was the "performance" socket with 6/12, 8/16 and whatever cores were promised years ago, the die size is fucking HUGE like xbox controller huge, thats why theyre so fucking expensive.
2) The lga 1151 still has the die bigger to the ryzen chip and it will never have 8/16 like ryzen they barely could fit 6/12 with the coffelake last ditch effort.
So this means, ryzen is way more complex than i initially thought
Am i wrong?
>>59189905
This!!! I went and bought two 7700Ks today and they will go in the high powered gaming computer for me and my wife's son.
According to AMD's financial filings their cost of sales is like 75% of net revenue and they're cutting a loss
>>59190191

Doesn't it take like a week in the furnace to make an ingot of silicon?
I know if they go down it's a month before they can start making it again. So surely it's more than 10c

>>59191052

>>59191457
It is not an ingot, it is a huge cilinder crystal sliced in very thin discs and treated with chemicals before the litography process take part. After that comes the layers of more chemicals to make the rails and gates were the electrons will travel. Takes like a month to a disk of silicon becomes several dies. And it is not all dies that end up working so they have to apply the loss on the price.
>>59190086
Is that from somewhere? I thought it was just a video.
"They say the recipe for Sprite is lemon and lime. I tried to make it at home. There's more to it than that."
>>59191525
Thanks youtube intellectual. I avoided saying crystal because of the process, and for ease of understanding to the /v/edditors in the thread.
Got a vid on how they connect the die to the pins? All I can find is transistor vids.
>>59189867
>Software consists of no materials

How can they get away with it?
Test
CPUs are so cheap IBM puts as many as fit in their mainframes, even if you didn't buy them, just in case you decide to pay to unlock them later.
>>59189867
>a certain combination of atoms is expensive
Why is this allowed?
I read that ryzen has some error. The jayztwocents found something but can not speak because of nda. It's a shit not at the bulldozer level, but considerable. This should have something to do with the memory speed limitations on some motherboards.
Already in relation to the chips, there is a guy who heard from a distributor from the south of Ecuador (his friend) that the ryzen are not binary. In this case a 1700 may have the same or even higher overclocking potential than the more expensive models.
It all depends on luck.
>>59189867
>5 cents of silicon
Of the silicon equivalent in sand (SiO2)it may be.
But see if you can make silicon
99.9999999% pure (9n Si)
For 5 cents. Even the reduction of the die affects pricing greatly.

>>59189975
So, If I understood it correctly - if intel spares a buck or two on better thermal paste or solder - they will run even cooler than now? Doesn't that mean that even with shitty toothpaste inside their chips they were still beating amd?
