For desktops, that's pretty much what it is since Intel has focused more on getting power consumption down than bringing performance up.

For laptops, CPUs have been improving because their reduced power consumption means laptops can either get better battery life, or they can get better performance with the same battery life as before. 2/3rds of the computer market is laptops so I don't expect Intel to change their focus any time soon.

SSDs aren't anywhere near the price/gb ratio of HDDs, but now a 256gb samsung evo can be had for $90

it is worth it if you're on a laptop, but I realize that isn't the premise of this thread.
