Would there be any major downsides to laptops and maybe even desktops switching to ARM now that Windows supports ARM and has win32 emulation? The current x86 duopoly with AMD and Intel isn't good for consumers. For years, AMD wasn't competitive so Intel could charge whatever they wanted while offering minimal performance gains over generations. And who knows, Intel might not be able to respond to Ryzen for a few years and AMD could do the same things Intel did the last few years. At least with ARM, the architecture is open to more companies so there is more competition among ARM CPU manufacturers. There's Samsung and Apple and Qualcomm and Mediatek and Huawei and more all making ARM processors.

Yeah, performance. There are no high-end ARM CPUs that can rival high-end x86 CPUs.

Well duh, but that would change once ARM licensees or whatever you call them start designing ARM processors for laptops/desktops.

The whole architecture just isn't designed for performance.

Elaborate, I'm not very knowledgeable on this.

Great battery life though
And in the end, normies ruin everything so expect Apple go first and everyone else follow suit. ARM is the shitty future.

Facebook machines don't need good performance
Power users are a minority

Microsoft demoed Photoshop running on a Snapdragon 820, I think some power users will be able to get by on ARM based laptops if the switch to ARM ever takes off.

This is the video I watched that showed it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ONI0zfEnBPU
It wasn't that long and I forget when it happens in the video, so you'll have to watch the whole thing, sorry.
