Yeah I'll pay the same for twice less the throughput so I can PAY to play DRM content in worse quality.

Intelshills have literally turned insane.
>>
>>59179471

I'm not buying a CPU just for Netflix, dummy!

I'm buying a fast CPU for multiple things and watching netflix at 4K would be one of them.
>>
>>59179438
That's a point in its favour. Imagine WANTING your CPU to be a DRM hub.
>>

LOL

How can a CPU not support Netflix?
>>
>>59179554

Ask AMD. Ryzen doesn't support 4K Netflix. Poo's got lazy.

Cucking yourself by buying a new botnet tv that has to be online and have a decoder. ONE cpu manufacturer. EDGE browser only
DRM

toppest keks good goyim. I would never take it up the ass that hard for some moving pictures.
>>
>>59179554

They don't implement the DRM features that Intel and Netflix partnered up to put in to Kaby Lake.
>>

Netflix 4k refuses to run on anything that isn't W10 Kabylake running the PlayReady 3.0 DRM (aka anything that isn't Windows Edge)

>>

What is "netflix?" Why is that important?
>>

Will AMD eventually fix this shortcoming? I'm not buying a new CPU if I can't have 4K.
>>
4k netflix doesn't run on anything that isn't DRM botnet garbage.
Ryzen can run every other type of 4k, just not the specific type of DRM that netflicks is soon to abandon.
>>
It should be fast enough for 4k H.265 decoding. Proprietary DRM is aids.
>>
>>59179644
That's a lot of requirements to get lossy 4k.
>>

It sounds like it's literally only Netflix.

Just use some other stream service you'll be good.
>>
>>59179728
It's too late bro. Should have donated to EFF sooner. Have fun paying your $200 Netflix tax.

There's no way Ryzen can't play 10b HEVC UHD video (although you'd want your graphics card to do this usually and Ryzen doesn't have one anyway). It's on Netflix for putting shitty DRM on their streams that requires specific hardware to support it, not AMD.

Having said that, Vega and Raven Ridge will no doubt support their shitty DRM.

>>
>>59179787
There's absolutely no reason why Nvidia graphics cards couldn't be supported right now, as they're PlayReady 3.0-compatible and support 10-bit HEVC decoding. No reason apart from the fact that Intel and Netflix made a shady deal to help sell Kaby Lake CPUs (because there's sure as fuck no other reason to buy one). Nvidia even made a marketing slide for Pascal that claimed support, only for Netflix to Jew them in the back.
>>
>>59179438
Not only that, but the Ryzen motherboards are garbage

8 PCIe lanes and they're only 2.0

No mini ITX boards whatsoever
>>
>>59179994
Damn! I just cancelled my Ryzen pre-order and bought a 7700K. No Netflix would have been tough, but no mini-ITX is the last straw! Fuck off and die AMD!!!

Why do I need a Kaby Lake now for 4k streaming when I've been able to do it on my 3570k for years? Hell, don't most browsers these days use your GPU for video rendering?

Sorry, I'm a bit of a normal fag confused by all this..

Because Netflix are using a new type of DRM to encrypt their 4K streams, which requires hardware support for decoding. As pointed out here >>59179927, Nvidia GPUs fully support said DRM, but Netflix still won't support them due to making a deal with Intel.

>>

But it's fixed in current consumer CPUs?
>>
>>59180254
There's no 'fixing', only Kabylake CPUs with a iGPU support 4k netflix streaming and only on Microsoft Edge browser.

Skylake-EX and Kabylake-X don't have a GPU and Skylake is from 2016.

What is the point of 4k streaming exactly? Most connections can scarcely hack 1080p streaming without reducing the bitrate down from lossless, what on earth would I want to be trying to stream data four times as heavy for? Shouldn't we be focusing on proper 1080p streaming first?

True, Netflix is the greatest tech Jew I've ever seen

Firefox even bent the knee to including the DRM by default, but on Linux Netflix is chrome exclusive. It's not even a fucking feature issue; if you spoof the user agent it just works
>>

It's not a question of capable, it's a question of Netflix being bloody minded about DRM like it's gonna protect their shit. (Hint, it won't).
