If they remove it from the Pro version, then yes this would be a massive fuck up from Windows, but not even street shitters are this fucking stupid.

As far as removing it from the Home version? Who cares. No power user of any caliber should be using home. Home is literally for tech illiterate people that dont know any better. This will prevent your aunts and uncles calling you up asking to troubleshoot their issues, because they downloaded something from limewire.

If you call yourself a power user and use the any "home" version of windows you don't deserve the freedom of choice.
>>
>>59180924
The problems are
- MS gets 30% of every sale in their store
- MS will know exactly how many users a a program has
- other stores like steam are fucked (Gaben was right)
- it wont be possible to resell physical copies of any software
- people wont be able to run their old software and will have to repurchase it
- MS will not allow "bad" programs into their store. Maybe they won't even allow alternative web Browsers, like apple doesn't on iOS
- since most users of the programs you use are home users, developers might only publish new versions through the store. Win7 users are fucked.
- they will remove compatibility with win32 applications even in the pro version, just a bit later

Basically the ultimate jewing tactic. THIS is why MS gave away win10 for free.

There's still tons of legacy games people have in their libraries that don't support Linux. And game developers will only support Linux if people actually switch to it. I'm hoping people do switch to it, and hell I wouldn't mind if old PC games got "HD remasters" that supported Linux if that happened.

>>
>>59182454
>Legacy games won't work on windows too, so there's no reason not to switch
The library of PC games you can play goes back pretty far. It'd be pretty infuriating for a lot of PC gamers if they couldn't play most games from the ~XP to 10 era.

If Microsoft really does try to lock out third party apps and force everyone to use the Windows store, I'd keep Windows 7 or 8 in a VM for older games.

>>

>>59182639

Apple is able to do it differently because they make more profit from the hardware sale since they control every piece of hardware sold with the OS.

M$ however has to rely on manufacturers continuing to include Windows on their machines, then making the rest of the profit from data mining and making commission from store sales,
>>
>>59182566
It would be suicide to remove it. They never would

>>59182588

I don't but I'm not searching /g/ to find last week's thread about this that talked about it.

It doesn't matter if it's enabled by default. I've learned if you use windows and don't work around at least 10% of the settings, you're retarded anyway and should just buy a mac. Windows isn't dumb enough to force this and if you keep up with their insider releases you see they actually take user feedback if it's not "macfags BTFO" or "time to install gentoo"

This is Autism thread and everyone has seen this thread since past week.

Windows 10 now basically just works which also respects your privacy and does not auto reboot after installing updates. It only reboots when you actually make it to.
>inb4 rebooting after updates lmao
most of linux distros also need to reboot after update. I know cuz I have used most of them.

Windows 10 also does not lag when you are working with multiple programs and windows like many linux distros out there. Even with low performing CPU and less resource Win10 keep consistent performance. I know this because I have used win10 in budget laptops and tablets. Linux doesn't even come 2% closer to what Windows 10 can actually do.

tl;dr - keep crying bitch nigga

They'd be stupid if they did. The main reason people buy Windows PCs is to run Win32 apps like Office, Photoshop, server software, etc. Going UWP only would just cause the business sector (the primary market for Windows) to say "fuck it" and switch to Linux or macOS.

I pretty much get paid just for being available when something needs to be done, which is rare.
I work on my own projects in the meantime. Quite comfy to be honest.

Basic telemetry only sends basic information about the system, application and driver compatibility, and basic crash reports without memory dumps.
If you release an update and the average number of bsods quadruples the next day then you will be able to respond quickly.

there is actually a tool which allows you to uninstall specific updates, but as you said

1) you need to install them all first, you can't choose ahead of time (so if it contains a breaking change, good fucking luck) and

b) since the updates are all rollups you still don't have the kind of granular control you did in 7/8.1.

Apple still ships drivers from the 1990s in OS X. When they change the system to some degree they let developers in on it for a good year in advance. There are NextStep OS applications which were ported to OpenStep and then Rhapsody, then PPC OS X, and finally Intel without any major code changes.

Yes some developers will have to recompile occasionally, but unlike with MS, Apple doesn't change everything every few years to force people into a new idiom.

With Windows, you're never quite getting what you think they're selling. There's an entire press corps telling you what you need and that MS has it. Of all the people I've met that use computers and aren't enthusiasts or in a job where they use them for more than just microsoft office, maybe a handful were actually able to use the fucking things without getting it full of malware and didn't require instructions on how to fucking do basic shit. I remember speaking with one lady who worked in an office that exclusively used apple products who unironically told me "Anon I don't know how you can use Windows or that other weird thing you told me about (Archlinux). Look at all these features Apple has that those don't!" She proceeded to show me how you could make program windows smaller and layer them on top or next to each other for quick access. Your typical office drone can be trained in on the Linux equivalent Office applications in a day or so.

Also to be fair many of the features she's using now are available on Linux, of course, but many might not be exposed to the normie user in an obvious way.

For a small business, an Apple-centric office network makes much more sense than the alternatives anyway. You can set them up with a file / time machine / calendar / email / etc server for the low cost of $15 for the Server application and they're off and away, and can even check the status of and even possibly administer the network themselves if you can find one non-braindead person there.

MS for the small office is completely retarded, on the other hand. Linux makes more sense there, ironically.

Well, they're not wrong about it becoming more secure since all the applications on the store get vetted and if the pool of applications available for install gets smaller, you have a lower chance of your system getting malware.

Ballmer's the guy who convinced Gates to hire the poos in the first place, many years back. He didn't ever care about quality, just money.

Bill's a prick but at least he used, and was critical of, his own products. You ever see a photo of Ballmer at a computer? Those are for fucking nerds, man.
