Your pageload speed will be as slow as the slowest image host in the thread, because you'll be loading the full images and not thumbnails.
But then by thumbnailing, you'll be storing data on your server, and that defeats the whole purpose of keeping your concerns separate from the image host's.

Images are distracting to discussion and are used like emoticons most of the time. Text can fulfill anything that an image can, especially when there's text art.
