OwnCloud: A file storage solution that is similar to other proprietary cloud services such as Microsoft OneDrive or Google Drive. But instead of relying on a third party to host your information (such as Microsoft or Google), you are hosting it yourself which gives you the freedom to host it on your own equipment and therefore control your information.
The only catch with ownCloud is that if you are business or enterprise, then you will have to purchase an enterprise license which can be pretty expensive.
NextCloud: An exact clone of ownCloud (that is even run by the same guy who runs ownCloud). NextCloud offers the same features of ownCloud (such as file sharing), but also offers better security protocols, workflow, office-based applications and services (such as Outlook integration) and even integration with video chat services. And as the same as ownCloud, you are still hosting NextCloud on your own equipment.
Essentially, NextCloud is a version of ownCloud that is designed for office use. While ownCloud is designed for personal/small business usage.
As an owncloud user, should I switch now?
