Post your component list, rate other anons', and ask questions in general.

Always state the purpose of your PC, your budget, AND YOUR COUNTRY if outside the USA.
If you are asking for improvements, clarify whether you want to lower price or to improve specs or build quality.

Assemble your parts list; built-in price comparisons by vendor and a compatibility filter.

>Subsitute a G4560 with 2400MHz RAM for any Pentium or i3; similar performance, up to 50% cost reduction.
>Consider using an i5 7500 in any RX470/480 or GTX 1060 tier build
>Consider stock fan+heatsink for any i3 or locked i5 build without a Z mobo
>Consider a B250 or mobo for any Pentium or i3 build
>Add a 240GB SSD to the "Very Good" tier build
>The only worthwhile gfx cards are the GTX1050, RX470, RX480, GTX1060 6GB for 1080p

Thoughts on this list? Someone in last thread was saying the i5-7500 was shit so I don't know if I should change it.

get the gigabyte one, bigger heatsink, more fans, shit won't have to turn up.

>>59158112
gigabyte has a much larger selection of coolers for the 1070, single, double, triple fan, and more, other than software and cooler design, they are still the same 1070.

>>59158138
and this
>>
>>59158143
You don't have to worry about about screen tearing, framebuffer lag, or oscillation between 30FPS and 60FPS with vsync on. The good thing about adaptive sync on a high Hz monitor is that it provides some type of low framerate compensation like frame doubling with a temporal shift so the game always appears to run smoothly.

>>59158143
If you're a pro gaymer you'll gain a benefit, sort of. If you're not one there is very little point of owning one.

Checked on HP's site and some local refurbished retailers. They only carry Haswell Pavilions, at roughly around 1.5 times more than I'd spend purchasing Kaby lake parts by myself.

get the p400s, it's worth the extra cash, or get the enthoo pro m,

other than that, it looks fine, maybe you should get an aftermarket cooler, but it does not matter too much
>>
>>59158178
It's fine. Be aware that you're getting a somewhat old socket and you could save $75 and get a better socket by waiting a few months for Ryzen, or you could pay the same amount and get almost i7 6700 performance

Other manufacturers do 7200 RPM at higher capacities, I think you have to go enterprise if you want to go beyond 7200.
>>
I bought kaby lake i5 7600k and a z270 board (maximus ix hero) and then find out later they're trying to fucker us out of win7 support. I'm finding things that say it'll work outside of the onboard gfx, which is fine with my gtx 1070, but does anyone have any experience with this? My windows is yarr harr'd btw, the daz loader and oem vendor windows way.
>>
>>59158318
>does not have anything over the 6500 other than a boost on the speed
How large is that? Because I have heard that if you are making a new machine Kaby Lake is worth it, but not worth if you are upgrading from Skylake.
>>59158346
> waiting a few months for Ryzen
Was planning on doing that anyways and seeing how Ryzen 5 preforms before buying my i5. What do you mean by old socket though?
>>
>>59158451
LGA 1151 is almost two years old by now, and Kaby Lake amounts to little more than a Skylake refresh. This is a Tock, you should either wait for intel's new Tick, or go straight for the Ryzens.
>>
>>59158451
the speed boost from 6500 to 7500 is 200 mhz which honestly, I don't know how significant that is
>>
>Coffee Lake is yet another refresh
fuck it go full Ryzen
>>
>>59158495
>>59158499
Well, I will wait until Ryzen 5's benchmarks come out and then decide whether or not to go AMD on this one (will most likely go Ryzen though).
>>
>>59158515
I think that's pretty sane. I'll do the same, even if it's not that much better than whatever Intel's offering. I'd much rather jew me out of one fps or two if it means having actual competition on the CPU market again.
>>
>>59158545
Getting a Ryzen would also tickle my autismo since I'm getting an AMD graphics card so having a matching AMD brand processor would be nice.
>>

>>
>>59158595
It's ok, Intel shills are more or less easy to detect these days, especially since they have gotten more and more desperate/obvious.
>>
>>59158568
Was there ever substantial evidence that supported the claim that AMD cpus worked better with AMD GPUs, and Nvidia with Intel? I remember that being said a lot back in the Athlon days.
>>
>>59158628
Not really, it was just AMD/Intel fanboys as always. Even CrossFire shit is dubious at best. A GTX 1060 will run just as well as a RX 480 on an intel CPU (and vice versa).
>>
Why are GPUs so fucking expensive?
>>
>>59158782
because they make yer vidya luk gud
>>
>>59158782

Are you going to OC like crazy ? No ? OF cource not, you have ordinary memory and not aftermarket cooler. It's cool tho because OC have little benefits considering the cost. then...

1 - Go for B350 mobo, cheapest is 90$, more than enough.
2 - Ditch Transcend SSD, get NVMe SSD instead. 960 EVO is the bomb. No need to stick to SATA speeds nowadays.
3 - NZXT S340 (White) is way nicer case, imo.
4 - You cound get slightly cheaper 1070 (G1 Gaming)
5 - Are you going to use that km-mouse combo ? you will want to kill yourself. get a G502.

My humble suggestion: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/Kw2RRG
Juat change mobo for B350 and ad dkeyboard.

building my first computer this week, comes with 2x8gb crucial sticks, i5 4460, and gigabyte H81M-S2PV.
Is this a good deal/is it worth getting? Thanks
>>
>>59158836
Mid-tier GPU with high end CPU ? you got it wrong men... i7 and Ryzen are only worth it IF you have best GPU (1080) and want to squeeze lat drop of performance out of system.

If you really want to stay with RX480 (wich is cool since it does freesynk) at lesat save money on mobo and cpu.

Also, go for NVMe SSD like EVO 960, not much more expensive but huge difference in perf.
>>
So I finished my PC recently but I'm getting a weird problem where the FPS on my web browser or desktop will drop to like 1 if I don't move the mouse.

But there's no rise in CPU or GPU activity etc. Just idle seems to cut everything down to 1 fps. What does that mean? Is it a vsync problem?
>>
>>59159182
RX 480 was a bit behind 1060 at release but the drivers improves drastically and is now clearly better than 1060.

Old reviews can't be trusted. Go for 480
>>
>>59159500
i think i saw in another thread that you can save money by buying a refurbished AM4 HP Pavilion

something about cutting a hole in the case or something.
>>
>>59159501

>>
>>59159568

>>
>>59159115

how good of a budget and what sort of resolution are you looking for? those are the real questions for a gaming rig.
>>
>>59159586
Internet is fine, what is happening is when I sit my mouse still on the desktop, my monitor, which has a frames per second icon, will display my frames per second dropping from 60 down to 1 eventually within about 10 seconds.

It happens on web pages too, making the browser sluggish until I start moving it.

It's really puzzling me out.
>>
>>59159501
I would not normally advise someone buy into older hardware even if it's only as far as haswell, but you are getting it at over $100 off new, go for it i guess.

>>59159579
and this
>>
>>59159591
around 1000 bucks or more if needed, and also not going for 4K resolutions or anything like that, I can stay at 1080p
>>
>>59159597

have you tried to look up the situation to see if anyone else has experienced it too?
>>
>>59159644
I did, this was my last port of call for it. I've googled things like 'FPS drops on desktop' 'FPS drops at browser idle' etc and got a hit for a bitcoin miner trojan, but my system is a fresh OS install and built myself, legit copy of windows, but I still did a scan with MSE, Hitman Pro and Mbytes and nothing.

Another thing was specifically for my browser, Waterfox, relating to hardware accel, toggling it on and off had no effect.

All other hits were just people complaining about their individual games and my games work fine, which is also weird.

r8 my build. 24gb of ram needed for meme job. not sure about 480 since the machine isnt meant to be a gaming rig but a workstation, but i also need to hook up a 4k display and three other 1080p displays. reading here that its really loud but assuming i'm not gaming this should really be an issue right? purple case and liquid cooling because i want to dabble in OC and rice my shit up. once i figure that out i'll consider getting a 1080 ti or something comparable.

unknown brand cooler ? Look cheap to me.
>>
>>59159946

1. do you plan to overclock the CPU? If so, either buy a good heatsink (DH 15 or a Cooler Master 212 EVO) or a 240mm liquid cooler. Those 120mm liquid coolers are garbage.

2. The way that a CPU accesses RAM from the motherboard means you'll want to either fill 2 slots or 4 slots. downgrade to 16 GB

3. as far as storage goes, hopefully you get a 1tb HDD

4. your power supply is overkill for what you're trying to do.

500w PSU is enough. Seasonic is most reliable brand.
>>
>>59159946
also would like something similar to that processor that would run win 7. currently using an i7 4790 and that's. would just getting last gen's i7 7700k be the easiest answer?

>>59159993
1. yes.
2. yea that's what i figured since i've heard about that before just couldnt remember the exact reason. my current setup has 16gb of ram and i'm hitting close to 95% during peak usage just wanted a nice buffer but not too much. i guess if i'm spending this much on other stuff might as well go for 32gb.
3. i stream everything and what i do doesnt really require that much storage so don't really see the point. also like my computer booting faster and not shitting the bed if it topples over for whatever reason.
4. i guess i could grab a lower wattage psu to buffer paying for another stick of ram.

thanks

So i'm gonna be building a rig pretty soon, personal use, and i've seen that the kingston valueram is significantly cheaper than anything else on the market.

So ...

My question is ...

Is there any observable difference between the cheapo sticks and the higher speed sticks?

Look, mate, i enjoy 4chan as much as the next guy. But this board is a very special type of OCD infused depressive autism. And i don't mean autism in the context of a jaded insult at the expense of the handicapped; i mean autism in the sense that personal computing is, by its very nature, a magnet for people on the spectrum.

What you just wrote to me indicates you seriously need to re-evaluate what you get out of being here, and whether or not the ability to insult strangers on the internet with jargon only you can truly understand is worth exchanging a small part of your very real and tangible grasp on reality.

Bought a graphics card, but don't get any picture. Tried putting it in twice, and tried both dvi and hdmi ports, so it shouldn't be that I put it in wrongly. The fans and lights on the card work, but no picture at all, just a black screen.

Quick question.

This would give me negative pressure in the case, which would accumulate MORE dust, right?

The idea is having more INTAKE than exhaust in order to not accumulate dust? (all intakes are filtered)
>>

Perhaps I could use the rear fan as INTAKE instead, yeah?

Yes.

>Perhaps I could use the rear fan as INTAKE instead, yeah?
This is just retarded.

Well, then I don't really have many options other than going 3 120s on the front panel, 1 140mm on the rear and 2 120s exhausts on the top for the CLC

That would just about net me neutral pressure which is still not ideal.

Imho go 3x120 intake and 1x140 rear + 1x120 top exhaust, you don't need a quadrillion of fans.

For gaming, should your GPU always cost more than your CPU?
>>
>>59169372
>https://pcpartpicker.com/list/JYZfGf
You're wasting money on that cpu cooler to impress the nerds here, a 212 will do the exact same job. You could upgrade to z270 and kaby lake, and still have some of that $50 left over. You're only losing Optane and higher m.2 bandwidth though.
>>
>>59169724
>>
>>59169748
Tbqh I don't know CPU coolers at all.
>>
>>59169724

The prices aren't related, but for gaming your cost priority should be

GPU > cooler (NHD15) > cpu (i5 6600k min) > SSD (850 evo) > RAM
>>
>>59169724
I'd say that's a good general rule, but I don't know about ALWAYS. If all you play are strategy games(or other CPU heavy stuff) and you care about framerate more than eyecandy, I imagine you might want to spend more on the CPU.
>>
>>59169796
212 evo, look at the sales numbers and ratings on newegg. There's a reason they still make it after so many people have bought it. I got one 4 years ago, still going strong and I just bought another for my next build.
>>
>>59169810

and your CPU will generally outlast your by at least three generations, so you can upgrade just the GPU two or three years later
>>
>>59169372
seems kinda weak for the money

$1300 for a 6600k and RX 480? here's a list I threw together a while back that is significantly faster for ~$1200 sans monitor

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/zhQq9W

sure there's no Samsung SSD but I've built PCs with both high end Samsung/Intel SSDs and cheaper stuff and noticed functionally zero difference between the two, it's up to you really if you think that a nicer SSD is a worthwhile division of your budget in lieu of strengthening your core CPU/GPU combo but I'd consider going with a lower end SSD just as a boot drive for the moment and upgrading it later if you really feel the need to.

Ryzen also seems promising if you want to get the most bang for your buck, really an excellent move here would be to go for an 4c/8t Ryzen CPU or whatever is $100 less than the 7700k and then put that extra money towards a 1440p or 144hz monitor depending on which you prefer. much nicer experience overall than what you have planned right now.

Tbqh what is the point of getting Ryzen when you have to OC it just to get comparable speeds to high end intel CPUs, while also being more expensive at the same time.

For instance

>1800X is $500 while the i7-7700k is $338
>1800X has less performance right off the bat and has to be overclocked to perform better

Muh eight cores and all that on paper, seems nice but the price tag being much higher than a high end Intel while barely performing better in theory is pretty kekworthy.

Just get a high end air cooler.
AIO are for faggots that wish they could be a kewl kid and have water cooling but are too pussy and poor to make a custom loop (which actually works all day because of larger radiators and the large reservoirs, but is still noisier than high end air).

I want to get AIO simply because they offer superior cooling in a smaller space and don't require me to get a shitload of tools and equipment just to cool a CPU. If you haven't heard it's name, don't buy. Good brands are Palit, Zotac, PNY, Asus, EVGA, MSI and others.
EVGA's ACX cards are housefire meme, but ICX cards are fine, it's their new heatsink design which fixed the exploding VRM issue, temps are now good.

Probably yes, i guess? Also Vega will come, too.

Idk if you need the HDD, you can leave it out, this would bring you just under $800.

Pretty good but to give you a heads up, it's going to be a pain in the ass with windows 10 and gaming. Especially if you have steam and all your files are on the other drive instead of your SSD.

motherboard just get a workstation class signature without going full gaymen, make sure it has intel nics and it's fine since the components are all good by default. eg Asus A series, signature. these boards will still handle overclocking and automatically from the uefi.

The gaming upsell is usually wifi (latency) and audio (in that case get a xonar dx with uni xonar drivers or external dac eg amp fiio e10K with HD598SE)

I wanna get the 1800X and i want to overclock it.

>>

Eternal hatred and anger towards the retailers raising RAM prices, industry being so incompetent to not produce more and AMD for delaying R5 1600X.

It affects OC performance, B350 is not meant for high-end OC, X370 is. Get the Asus PRIME X370 unless you want to go full retard and spend 300€ on a mobo.

Answer this for me, /pcbg/.

Ryzen 1400X or i5-7500?
>>
>>59158068

Can we update that sticky to include NVMe as the go-to SSD type ?

We also need to emphasis the balance between cpu power and gpu power. way too many people wan to pair RX470/480 with i7-K cpu. that's just asking for disapointment.

Also, PCPP does not list B350 AM4 boards, that's a shame because they are way cheaper and a better choice for most people going for R7-1700.

I just don't know what to tell you guys anymore.

What part of your autisms is keeping you guys from just buying a used 4770k and motherboard, or something like that?

>>59173761
Just make a bristol ridge AM4 system for $400 and upgrade to Ryzen + 1080Ti/Vega when they come.

$800 right now is pretty much the sweet spot of paying double for only 25% better performance than you get over a $400 system.

Or you can go with a G4560 or i3-7350K plus an GTX 1070.
Or get a Ryzen 7 and just a cheap GPU like a RX470. If you want to cheap on the motherboard and just have 8GB of ram, I think you can fit in an RX480.

>>59173776
1400X obviously.
Twice the threads.
Unlocked multiplier.
Motherboards cost less.

Intel only has 2 CPUs worth buying:
G4560 and i7-7700k
All the others are horribly, arbitrarily gimped for no reason except to drive sales of those two processors.
i5-7500 is just made so you'll need to upgrade sooner once its 4 threads and lack of unlocked multiplier chokes you.

Honestly, like >>59173836 said:
Why is this even a question?
>>
>>59173858
Not really. R7+B350 mobo gets you to ~$430 while n i5-7500+B250 mobo gets you to ~$300.

So you have to pay $130 extra for better performance (which makes sense considering the R7 is supposed to compete with the i7 processors)

Absolutely. RX460 is imho such a shit card, it's only an option if you're really.. really poor or some other use cases. The RX470 is the best match for the G4560 and fits in your $450 budget.
If you can go up to $500 you could add a cheap $120 SSD for OS and maybe some applications or improve general build quality.
>>
>>59174205
>Do you have any builds that include those parts? No idea what to pair up with anything, sadly.
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/GJYghq

Add in the GPU of your choice. RX480, 1070, 1080, whatever. It might choke them in some games but it's perfectly adequette for 60fps and since you guys have such shit budgets you can just upgrade the CPU and motherboard later while getting a decent GPU now.

For $414 is includes a
-480GB reliable model of SSD
-8GB stick of decent memory to upgrade later.
-Decent PSU (Yes, Rosewill are actually decent. Though I did buy a Seasonic M12II 620W for $43 last week. That's $12 cheaper and better)
Choose your own case.

Here you can later replace the motherboard and CPU with Ryzen or whatever when you can afford 8 threads or better and you only lose $100.

>>59175180
Oh actually I see the M12II 620W is up on there for $48. That's a better buy than the Rosewill.

But yeah, a system like that has $390 left over for a good GPU in a $800 budget. Much better than the i5-7500 and i5-7400 builds people are doing that have both a shitty CPU AND a shitty GPU.
It's better to have a good of either because then you can stagger upgrades to make it easier on your budget and more cost effective, not mediocre of both.
You could even simply get a Fury X. They're down around $250 now.

It'll get cpu choked past 60fps in some games, but it's good enough while you save to upgrade the motherboard and CPU while all the other parts are great and worth keeping then.
G4560 are probably going to have good resell value, too, since Ryzen won't really buttfuck them like the i3s and i5s.
