Context: a windows 10 update caused people to boot up with this screen, bricking some peoples' computers, while others made it through.
The Apple MacBook Pro with Retina Display doesn't have this problem.
The Dell XPS 13 Dveloper Edition with InfinityEdge display doesnt have this problem.

You definitely can brick them far more easily, but at least it's possible to fix them without formatting your drive.

The state of programs on GNU/Linux is not what it once was. There are still quite a few namebrand programs that you'll miss (adobe products, office, etc.) but as a developer myself, I find that Windows lacks far more programs that I use on a daily basis.
It's all about your use case, I suppose.
