Why is this better than most modern day monitors?
>>
Better because a little radiation is good for ya
>>
>>59155006
you don't have to choose between picture quality, viewing angles, refresh rate, black levels, etc.
you just get all of it in one box.
>>
Most CRTs can run resolutions higher than they were designed for without distortion
>>
Any IPS or even VA panel is supior these days.
>>
Never had a single problem with my CRT when I had it.

>great resolution
>easy to change settings
>Hardly had to ever mess with said settings
>Could slightly warm a bag of skittles on the back of it

*WERE* superior

With cheap IPS panels, CRT has no advantages left.

I still have a
1800x1440 @ 75 Hz
Trinitron CRT
from FUCKING 1999

I didn't replace it for SIXTEEN FUCKING YEARS

My IPS monitor is *ALMOST* as good in everything but refresh rate and max resolution.

>>

In what way are crt's superior? They no longer have better blacks, refresh rates, latency is negligible, etc and they weigh like 50+ pounds and take up your entire desk.

Also you could get flat crt's so I dont even get why you would use that as an insult

CRT is a much better technology than LCD.

1) Perfect black levels
2) Flawless off-axis viewing
3) Much faster refresh rate than LCD
4) Warmer, more natural image (thanks to scan lines and small granules)
5) Far longer life-span
6) Not subject to manufacture problems such as dead-pixels
7) Good range of compatibility with lower or non-standard resolutions without blurring

Given ultimate space and money the world's best CRT could easily crush the world's best LCD. So tell me /g/, why do you like your inferior screens that companies such as Samsung have brainwashed you to think is better than what already existed? The only cost-savings are on their end.

And the funny thing is you guys keep buying this crappy LCD technology and giving away your free CRTs on Craigslist. A fool and his dollar are soon parted I guess.

And before you start yapping about IPS panels:
Enjoy your slow G2G response to switch pixels already, not to mention that hidden input and scalar lag. Luckily, CRT has no such bullshit.

The only semi-legitimate point I've heard against CRTs regards weight, but you don't bitch about the weight of a prospective couch while furniture shopping, do you? Didn't think so.
>>
>>59155368
>better blacks
Those to-be-released Panasonic displays are promising, but what else has contrast above 15k:1?

Viewing angle, CRTs have a different set of trade offs. No LCD is really color/gamma stable off axis, but CRTs are subject to geometric distortion LCDs just don't have. I find the geometric issue small and vastly prefer the color, but it isn't for everyone.

>electrical and computer engineering
Respectable, I'm into Telecommunications myself

>>59156206
>because of inconsequential specs, etc

Inconsequential for you, I am using an LCD myself right now because I don't have much space and it is a little bit easier on my eyes.

But even my shitty LG Flatron looked better than most LCD/LED I have ever seen, and I will not even get started on the Trinitron, but they broke down and I can't get ahold of one in my country anymore not to mention that a good one is a little bit expensive, though I'll try to get one again eventually.

Facts are facts, it has nothing to do with being a neckbeard or anything of the sort, and if there is someone who cares about the looks are the faggots that prefer an LCD or a smartphone because its the "normal thing".

I once saw some idiot post on a forum complaining that his "weird friend" was using a feature flip phone on public, like he was ashamed or something, I think it is the other way around and you just can't accept that other people prefer non-popular technology for legitimate reasons, that's is pretty sad narcissistic of your part, but that's how 'most' normalfags are.

Only usable for old retro gaming.

Correct LCD/OLED technology has surpassed CRTs, for several years already.
Only acceptable reason to use CRTs for everyday use is as said, using it with hardware that utilized it's quirks or that you just are unable to buy a proper monitor and use it as temporary replacement.
>>
>>59155971
Exactly what I said, a bag of skittles. Skittles are hard as fuck. It softens them nicely.
>>
Small text is unreadable on CRT compared to LCD. If you spend your time in terminals or text editors, LCD allows you to use a lower font size and you can fit more work on the screen.

The only technology that can replace CRTs is OLED, but that isn't very available for consumer displays just yet
>>
>>59157372
vga has a minimum scan rate of 31kHz.
you can not hear 31kHz.
>>
>>59157467
That just means your hair cells for that particular frequency are completely destroyed.
>>
>>59156024
Agreed, but only when i turn on the TV.
>>
>>59157576
it's not the vga signal that makes the noise, it's the flyback transformer iirc
it makes noise at around 17kHz, which is within human hearing range
>>
>>59157898
Usually the flyback frequency is equal to the scan rate.
TVs scan at 15kHz so everyone can hear them. If you can hear a vga monitor, it's probably broken.
>>
Literally the only thing that modern screens do better is geometry/convergence.
>>
>>59155006
Today's best LCD panels are definitely better than CRTs within the sum of their parts, but rather than using blanket statements, lets break it down bit by bit:

>Resolution
Yes, we had 2048 x 1536 way back in the day, but while 1440p gets you almost the same vertical space, it also has vastly more horizontal space. And if you care more about resolution than refresh or persistence, CRTs have nothing on 4/5K.

>Refresh rate
While expensive, you can get a 144hz IPS panel or 200hz VA. This is pushing right against the boundaries of what CRTs were capable of *at a reduced resolution*, because remember, at maximum res, few CRTs were ever faster than 85hz, you had to drop down to like 640x480 to get 200hz.

>Viewing angles
No practical issue with most modern tech except TN, which is shit anyway.

>Black levels
...are really only an issue in a dark room, but since this is /g/, I'll give you basement dwellers the benefit of doubt here.

>Runs any res natively
Not really relevant, as there are no modern programs whose scaling is so garbage that you'd have to change the resolution of the display itself to support it, and it made more sense when multi-tasking wasn't really a thing anyway. You never run anything full-screen 99.9% of the time.

>Colors
I work with colors all day long do a lot of design work, a well-calibrated LCD display with 99% Adobe is far superior to CRTs, I'll never go back to using one again.

>Persistence of vision (and brightness)
If you have a 144hz display, chances are it also has ULMB or some other strobing effect built-in, this works just like a CRT by keeping pixels alight for only a short moment between refreshes, this does drastically reduce brightness, but CRTs weren't known to be particularly bright, and you typically want to stay within 140cd brightness anyway.

And of course I don't have to talk about the pure cons of a CRT that LCD simple doesn't suffer from like calibration drift, sheer size and weight, image burn/ghosting, etc.
>>
>shill your gay ass CPU that needs 25W less
>and CRT
