This thread is about the appreciation of watches, as well as the micro-engineering and materials engineering that are required to make a fine watch.

Oops, posted at the end of the last thread.

Hey guys, first time stopping by

This was my dads TAG Heuer, he just broke up with my stepmom now and needs some money so I bought it from him for $1200.

It's a lot but feels pretty cool having my first real luxury watch.

What do you think?
>>
>>59153439
Given the poorly copied dial and weird looking lugs, maybe. But the too small sub-seconds is a design flaw that Nomos made on their own watch, not just something that shows up on fakes.

Have any of you ever directly purchased from abroad before? I just want to know what to expect in regards to shipping time and if something could happen to this en route. Creation watch wants $87 for the snkl41, but you can order directly from japan with free shipping for $58 (white face), and $67 (blue face)

Also, which one?

>>59154390
So here's the thing with 1963's... QC is their downfall. I don't know what it is but apparently the quality control is just abysmal. So what you need to know is that if you're lucky you will get a piece that keeps decent time and after 2 months still has chronograph features working (some people claim that their watch hands stop resetting properly). If you get a shit one it'll break by clapping as actually happened in a thread on WUS. So your call. Also be aware if you're buying Thomas watch or an original seagull one

You'd better pray your watchmaker is a vintage Omega specialist.

If I recall correctly, Cosmic's have one piece cases that can only be opened by blowing compressed air into the case via the crown tube, at great risk of damaging the movement, dial and hands.

My local watchmaker generally refuses to work on Cosmics for this reason.

So I am trying to buy a watch simply from selling old MTG cards which i collected as a kid. I currently have a Casio Wavescepter, an Orient Esteem that was gifted to me, and a Sinn 556i.

Hopefully I should have around $800 Canabucks when i finish selling some of these off, what is a good manual winder in that price range? If any. Trying to pad out the collection as I already have a dress watch, casio, and sinn556 as my everyday. Maybe a Chrono? I like watches that have a feature or interesting technology.

Hey guys, I want to get one of the grand seiko models that isnt one of the hi-beat or spring drive models.

I am aiming at the sbgr051. Is the sbgr051 their "default" choice, like the equivalent of the datejust for rolex?

>72 hour power reserve

I also quite like the SBGR059. Its similar in design, except slightly larger at 38mm, and the case is made of titanium. Most importantly for me, the seconds is blue in colour, which I find rather striking.

A crystal grabber MAY work if the watchmaker can very carefully cut the adhesive between the crystal and case without damaging the crystal, case, or movement.

Basically, my point was that you need a specialist familiar dealing with that type of case. I would suggest searching Omegaforums for NY vintage Omega specialists.

How much did Seiko charge for these quartz shitters back in the 80s?

This one is from 1982 and there's hardly a mark on it. With some light hand polishing I've made the dial and the parts on the case that are supposed to be polished steel, like new. So the finish seems good quality. Was £10 from a charity shop.

I've bought a few watches but the only one I really like is this one that my grandfather gave me a couple years ago. It's from the 70s and runs around $200 but it functions well and I like the aesthetics, especially the red hand and calendar day. Got quickly bored of the other ones. Don't get into watch buying, it's an endless cycle.

Water resistance. The problem is it chips and looks like shit. Don't buy a watch coated with it, only small things like hardware on a strap
